http://www.politicususa.com/2014/10/14/outrage-grows-greg-abbott-insults-millions-calling-disabled-americans-props.htmlThe Abbott campaign went insane after Lamar White Jr., a law student who has cerebral palsy, spoke at a press conference in support of Davis. According to the Austin-American Statesman, After horrendous wheelchair attack ad, Wendy Davis uses disabled people as props, David Carney, a top Abbott adviser, tweeted about Mondays news conference.
While trying to use Greg Abbotts disability to attack Wendy Davis, Republicans leveled a vicious slur against all Americans with disabilities. Wendy Davis responded by demanding an apology, Greg Abbott needs to apologize for the disgusting attacks on the disabled community by his top campaign staff. They can criticize me all they want. However, referring to a brave young man with cerebral palsy as a prop in order to dismiss his views about Greg Abbotts hypocrisy of suing a homeowner for a multi-million dollar settlement while denying that same opportunity to rape survivors and paralyzed patients is out-of-bounds. ...
Beyond the tweet, Abbotts campaign and supporters have been trying to discredit Mr. White by claiming that he was not disabled enough to speak in support of Davis. The idea of a ranking scale for individuals with disabilities is as insulting as it oppressive. Individuals such as Greg Abbott can still operate a motor vehicle, but many individuals Cerebral Palsy and other neurological conditions can not, because there is more to disability than physical mobility. Just because a person can stand up or move under their power does not mean that they are less disabled than a person in a wheelchair.
Looks like the shoe is on the other footrest!

(37,999 posts)He used to be Perry's campaign guru until Goodhair decided to go national. Carney's great trick was to just keep his boy from talking to persons capable of independent thought. He can't do that with Abbott because Texans really don't know the guy.
Your hair is nice, Mr. Abbott. But it's not nearly pretty enough to save you from your dumb, jackass campaign.

(83,746 posts)He was not disabled enough????? What???? I had no clue that we had a bar that was set at how disabled you can be before you are allowed to speak.

(1,325 posts)What the hell? What more does he need to lose then? His dick? You gotta lose your dick to be more disabled than Abbot?
If Mrs. Davis doesn't win this race, it would say more about Texas voters than it does her campaign skills.

(10,495 posts)hard to pretend to be compassionate, empathetic, and understanding when you don't know the first thing about any of these feelings.
Abbott was a hard hearted asshole when he was a judge and before that as an Insurance Defense attorney.

(29,047 posts)David Carney said disabled people were used as props. Different person. Different message.
Disagreeing with David Carney is fair, but do we really need to put words in Greg Abbott's mouth?

(35,015 posts)Abbott exploited his own disability in that ad. Not that I take anything away from him for what he's been through, but just because he's disabled doesn't mean he's a decent man.
