North Carolina: The GOPs Expensive Gamble
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has plans to pour another $6 million into the North Carolina race already the most expensive this cycle, and a contest that hasnt shaped up the way the GOP had hoped.
Republicans need a net gain of six seats to take control of the Senate, and a year ago, that math almost always included a victory in the Tar Heel State by defeating Sen. Kay Hagan. But less than a month before Election Day, the North Carolina race still eludes the GOPs grasp and has put a massive dent in the partys wallet.
On Monday, the NRSC confirmed to CQ Roll Call it had reserved another $6 million in television ad time in the state to help Tillis. Until now, the party had not reserved airtime for the final two weeks of the race, even as the NRSC announced increased investments in other states, signaling it was still weighing whether to send in the cavalry.

I'm starting to see a lot of projections that are heavily weighted in the favor of the Republicans - but I'm not believing them. I think they are running scared right now. . .

(17,651 posts)Some one or some group on our side is also dumping millions to help save Hagan's seat and they are pretty effective ads at that.
NC is being blitzed from both sides. The Gops ads are almost entirely based on flagrant, incredible lies.

(113,047 posts)is covering every base, but, the money NEEDS to be spent on GOTV to match what Kochs and Art Pope are doing - they are LITERALLY financing the ground game for GOP. Whereas most Dems are VOLUNTEERS, the GOP is PAYING for full-time workers statewide. They are dumping millions into RW churches and organizations, too.

On another note - another kick for this.
I know ebola is the topic du jour - but we still have elections to win, a Senate to defend, and few seats to flip in the House.

(31,816 posts)Are sponsoring/holding a meeting/inquiry today on Ebola. Which didn't they vote to underfund the CDC?
They make the problem.
They complain about the problem.
Then they blame the problem on the other side.

(5,364 posts)I don't talk much politics with them but because I get along with them else-wise, I think they think I'm a quiet conservative. Seriously though, they're really worried: About NC and other states. I don't watch TV unless in situations where I'm a captive audience, but I notice the Tillis ads are ridiculous.
I'm also an ex-NRA member ( though not anti-gun as such ) and I haven't renewed in years, but suddenly my mailbox has been carpet-bombed by shrieking NRA anti-Hagan/Pro-Tillis mailings. I mean, I get like 4 or 5 a week! I'm also getting robo-calls from them out the ying-yang. Most I ignore after looking at the caller ID but some leave messages. They're getting really desperate. I answered one call from a live person calling on behalf of the NRA. Listened to her scripted plattitudes before I told her ( respectfully, she's no doubt just a worker bee ) that there's no way I'm going to let a silly wedge issue like guns or any other social issue crap dictate my politics. I told her I'm not such a paranoid gun nut that I'm going to vote for a far-right corporate tool, and asked her to provide this feedback to her handlers.

(1,980 posts)Tillis ads have been on the air since at least the middle of last year (yes, I do mean 2013). Well, ads supporting Tillis have been on the air that long. I only saw actual Tillis ads, with the approval voiceover, in the last 3 months or so. I've counted the RSCC, Rove's group, AFP, and Carolina Rising (AFP offshoot) running ads in addition to the candidate himself.
The funniest, and scariest, thing lately is the sheer level of lying in the Tillis ads lately. They hype the money they re-added to the budget for education as a commitment to educating the young. The truth is that they added some of the money they cut because teachers were in near-revolt, and still are, and their approval ratings sank to near-Congressional levels. If you paid the slightest bit of attention to the news in the last year, those commercials tell you exactly what you will get with Tillis.
I'm used to politicians lying to me. I've watched just about every politician I've ever seen lie on matters big and small. Tilllis, though, has really raised the bar in a big way. He's not lying about something that happened 2 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago. He's lying about things that happened 3-4 months ago. The ink is barely dry on the newspapers. It's clear that he's a supreme lowlife. I could easily picture a better senator than Hagan, but Tillis is like Richard Nixon come again.
