The hospital said in a statement that it "admitted a patient late Wednesday night for evaluation of Ebola-like symptoms. We have not confirmed or ruled-out any diagnosis at this point. We are working in cooperation with City, State and Federal health officials. There is no further information available at this time."

(1,850 posts)Even before Duncan's diagnosis a number of people had been evaluated. Since Duncan, that number has skyrocketed, and is getting way more media attention. Fortunately, it appears that all those cases have been negative, at least thus far.

(19,537 posts)At least false alarms shows our system is working at some level to try and detect the spread of the disease, even if getting it wrong a number of times.
Over time the process will be refined to get help minimize these false alarms, but I'm glad that we're more cautious than necessary than less cautious than necessary.
