Dining on Dogs in Yulin (graphic image/video)

(Yes, title means what it says so don't blame me if you clicky on starty button)

VICE

Southern China has always had a tradition of dining on dogs—people from other parts of the country even joke that Southerners will eat anything with legs but the dinner table. But despite becoming more prosperous in the 1990s, Yulin has maintained the unique tradition of holding a canine banquet every summer.

Animal rights activists across China and the rest of the globe have increasingly condemned the Dog Meat Festival, calling for an immediate stop to eating man’s best friend. They say the dog meat trade is illegal, unregulated, and cruel. Many claim that numerous dogs that end up in cooking pots are stolen pets or diseased strays.

In 2013, the Yulin festival gathered so much negative press that this year, the local government denied the Summer Solstice dog-eating tradition ever even existed. But that hasn’t stopped locals from celebrating—nor has it stopped die-hard activists from flooding the town to try to rescue dogs before the slaughter.

VICE Reports headed to Yulin this year to get to the bottom of the most controversial festival in China.

Someone's very likely to become upset at the photo. In fact, I pretty much guarantee it.

While I know that dog is on the menu in some places, I'm not fond of the idea, personally. So, I really have no need to watch the videos, I think.

I had something like that happen in front of me once. I was driving into the MSP airport. They have hanging signs warning of low overhead clearance ahead. There was a cherry picker truck ahead of me. I saw the truck and remembered the signs, and backed off quite a ways.

Thing was, the signs themselves are set at the same low clearance that is ahead. They hang from chains. So the cherry picker on that truck hooked one of the signs and the sign came loose and fell to the pavement behind the truck. Fortunately, I had backed off and was able to stop safely before hitting the sign. I went around it and dropped my wife off for her flight.

Looked to me like the cherry picker on that truck was irreparably damaged, though.

If it is meat, you can be guaranteed someone on the planet makes it a meal before bedtime. People eat horse, people eat PEOPLE!

Just no limit to what humans will eat.

Especially if you could set yourself up as a 'donor' before death, and specify where the proceeds of selling your meat went to in your will.

it's the cruel treatment when they are raised, transported and slaughtered that bothers me.
