as Cat4 Hurricane Gonzalo is about to devastate that island. This is going to be very bad.
The Premiers statement:
Out of an abundance of caution, the Royal Navy vessel HMS Argyll is heading to Bermuda behind the storm and is available to provide considerable, skilled assistance should we have the need after the hurricane passes Bermuda.
There are some important advisories of which the public should take note:
Government schools closed as of 1.30pm today
The last public buses will leave Somerset and St. Georges at 6pm today
Ferries will end their service at 7pm
If your trash has not yet been collected please store it somewhere safe until after the storm
There is a shelter available from 3pm today at CedarBridge Academy
All residents in low lying residential areas should strongly consider evacuating their homes for higher ground
Lastly, the Causeway will close at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
The decision to close the Causeway is based on the forecasted, deteriorating conditions throughout Friday.

(21,596 posts)I have friends in Grenada who were so terribly devastated by a hurricane.
It is so very hard to be an island country with a hurricane bearing down upon them.
Stay safe.

(268,949 posts)When I'm in the path of a storm just knowing others are aware that I'm about to get whacked and will be there for you after the storm is comfort.
Lots of folks - Caribbean governments and civil society groups are already on stand by to help in tangible ways and vibes and thoughts never hurt anyone.

(48,181 posts)that they are going to pray for somebody. "You are in our prayers" - that sort of statement creeps me out. Of course as this stuff is culturally pervasive nobody thinks twice about it, and people generally get bent out of shape if you ask them exactly what they think "sending good vibes" is going to do. Here is a hint: it ain't gonna do shit.
Does anyone seriously think that "vibes" are going to protect Bermuda?

(153,150 posts)just a wishing them well feeling, which I do

let's all fight for reducing our carbon footprint. Let's take it all the way to the people, as no one in Washington, D.C. is willing to work on behalf of that need.
We are all Bermuda.
