PRESIDENT Barack Obama said yesterday that he will wait to pass judgment on Secret Service agents accused of improper conduct involving prostitutes, but added that he will be "angry" if the reports of misconduct are true.
Obama said during a press conference at the close of the Summit of the Americas that he expects the Secret Service investigation of the incident to be "thorough" and "rigorous."
He said if the allegations are true, "then of course I'll be angry."
"We're representing the people of the United States and when I travel to another country, I expect us to represent the highest standards," he said. "We're here on behalf of our people and that means we conduct ourselves with the utmost dignity and probity, and obviously what has been reported doesn't match up with those standards."

(52,791 posts)They sound more keystone coppy to me.
So many guys in authority seem to think with their dicks... Why is that?

(2,593 posts)Do they not have control over their sexual urges? Do they think standards of behavior do not apply to them? What other rules/regulations do they disregard? Is this kind of arrogance exclusive to men or is it just that they dominate positions of authority?
While I've heard some dismiss it as no big deal, I find this whole episode disgraceful.

(25,183 posts)Clearly, somebody was doing something they weren't supposed to be doing, and that makes you corruptible. All it would have taken is to allow some tiny breach of normal security, and a drug lord could have killed the President. When you're holding a Secret Service agent's job over his head, you might just get that tiny little 'harmless' looking breach.

(3,249 posts)Once in the Pentagon's E-ring with Pres Clinton's personal protection detail, and once while walking down Pennsylvania Ave with a special protection detail protecting some middle eastern Ambassador. Neither was pleasant, in fact they went out of their way to be very confrontational, even though we were supposed to be on the same side. (I really don't like having an Uzi pressed into my gut by someone I am supposed to be helping, just because he can.)
When they came to Fort Hood along with Pres Obama after the Fort Hood shooting I was going to be required to interact with them again. I saw to it that I had to be elsewhere that day.
I'm sorry, but the SS is right up there with the BATFE and most FBI agents I have met on the list of people I would prefer not to associate with on any terms.

(28,151 posts)and they were great! Of course they had a pretty easy assignment and this is paradise, the weather was perfect, they were excited to do some para-sailing and what-not afterward. The one in charge was a woman and she was very bright, very pretty and not one to mess with. Still, they were very professional and courteous while they were here and I enjoyed it.
Sorry your experiences have been unpleasant. That must have been disappointing, to say the least, eh?

(4,276 posts)and although he wasn't ever a member of the Secret Service he told me that had he been, he sure wouldn't have taken a bullet for then President Clinton. That was when I began to doubt the validity of the screening procedures for these agents.
So sad, not to mention dangerous.

(45,319 posts)This sure weakens his theory that Straight people are highly spiritual in their 'unions' and all of that.
It is really galling as this agency has a long history of anti gay propaganda around the idea of 'open to sexual manipulation'. Well. This is what they do, with that history? And this in the week where the President refused to extend protections to Federal Employees.
Hypocrites on parade.
