the fact they want both proves they really dont care about abortion other than how it can be used to rile up the base.

(27,403 posts)cheap and easy access to birth control. Not just support - demand. They would be on every cable show touting the benefits of sex ed and birth control.
I don't think they really want Roe v Wade overturned either because then there wouldn't be this issue to drag out every election cycle.

(65,616 posts)That is why the GOP is against progress of most any kind. Educating children about their bodies might make them have far less voters down the line when they have to play on irrational fears to get votes. It is about the only way they can get votes.

(6,670 posts)As long as women feel shameful enough, and bear a high risk of rape, abuse, incompetent or worse medicine, and death, they're content if a few get aborted. Especially if they can then rave about women all being murderers.
And it's so much easier to control people if they have to be criminals to get by - you can always harass someone with something.

(10,000 posts)Those would be:
1) Heterosexuality
2) Abstinence only before marriage, Birth control is not the answer.
3) The unmarried shouldn't go anywhere past heavy petting above the waist. Friendly handshakes after dates, of course, would be optimal.
I agree with half of your proposition. There are a number of conservatives who genuinely want to end legal abortion for a variety of reasons. The Republican Party really doesn't care about abortion other than how it can be used to rile up the base. You'll note that Bush was President hand had both houses of Congress for six years and made no substantive moves to end legal abortion other than appointing conservatives to the judiciary. I think the Republican Party leadership dreads the day (should it ever come) that Roe is overturned. They know a backlash will come.
