I try to watch it but can't anymore. I can't even take Rachel Maddow anymore. They no longer do any real journalism and they pick the latest ratings "gimmick" and do it 24/7. I'm done and it's a shame because we NEED a liberal voice in the media. I miss Keith Olbermann he would have never put up with this!

(14,732 posts)and then Martin Bashir (the only 2 reliably strong liberal voices on MSNBC) it's hardly worth watching. Rachel has become far too 'gimmicky' with her style and presentations. Tweety blows hot and cold and Big Ed is usually a strong Liberal but doesn't carry the weight Keith and Bashir did.

(5,103 posts)I find that an hour show takes ten minutes.
Hayes and Tweety are hyperventilating and Rachel has gone overboard with the fear aspect.
Dare I say that Shephard got it right?
Enough with the all day repetition of nothing.

(1,214 posts)24/7 Rachel has been frustrating me. I'm not in school, I don't need a lecture for half her show. I do know what's going on and much of her information is very redundant to me. I end up getting frustrated and flipping the channel multiple times.

(7,499 posts)I used to love to watch Rachel, but her constant "teaching" wore thin. I want to be informed and enlightened, to hear what the news is and what is going on in the country and the world. The didactic approach is not only grating but a bit insulting.

(20,166 posts)I listen to little ol' KPFA online (a left-wing radio station in Berkeley that pioneered listener-supported broadcasting in 1949), but it's struggling through another pledge drive that seems to be yet another uphill slog. I get so much good info from so many of their programs, I'd hate to see it go under.

(31,464 posts)Unlike Fox "News," the word "News" appears nowhere in MSNBC's name, advertising or promotions. They never pretending to be "News" channel, as Fox claims to be. They are "The Place for Politics." Period. Fox dupes its viewers with their "Fair And Balanced" slogan. MSNBC says "The Place For Politics" or "Lean Forward." They are an OPINION channel, and have never been anything else.

(3,894 posts)Lawrence O'Donnell, too.) I appreciate all their news programming except
Morning Schmo.
When I turn on Rachel, I prepare myself for a well thought out presentation that never ceases to enlighten me.
Keep grumbling about how much you hate it, folks, and you can pat yourselves on the back when liberal voices completely vanish from tv.

(15,435 posts)It's all people who don't have extra channels and are liberal minded have. So the choice is... watch or maybe will be gone!
ebbie15644
(1,214 posts)because it's "Liberal" it has to be worth watching. All 3 primetime shows (Lawrence, Rachel and Chris) regurgitate the same stories and Rachel talks "down" to her audience. I'm not a "teabagger" and I don't like feeling like I'm taking a high school civics class.

(15,435 posts)Nor do I think MSNBC is all that liberal, but it's the closest thing to a leaning left station. They do have some liberal guests who appear on various shows like Bernie Sanders. My preference there is Ed Schultz. I wish there was a station for liberals like the right has FOX. Don't think that's going to happen so MSNBC is about all there is.
I don't switch from FSTV until 3:00 or 4:00 PM each day. And at times go back to FSTV again. But I DO watch other programs other than politics.

(856 posts)I agree Stardust. IMHO MSNBC was a major factor in President Obama's re-election. Lawrence's TLW is a must see program in my house. I go online to watch clips from Joy Reid but I also appreciate other MSNBC programs. MSNBC is not included in the basic cable package--I pay extra for MSNBC. Neilsen ratings include landlines & TV only & not mobile devices; smart phone, androids, kindle, etc. MSNBC hosts are factual, informative & all mistakes in reporting are acknowledged unlike Fox & now sadly CNN has become more conservative.

(111,076 posts)As an alternative for FOX News.
They decided to offer a network for the marketshare that was not being served by FOX or other networks - a more liberal market. It has worked fairly well up to now.
It was never about the philosophy of GE or Comcast to capture the majority of Americans with their new network. It was all about capturing the potential customers that had turned off FOX.

(9,089 posts)You can tell they have been coached to do it. Almost all of them do it. Nobody I know in real life have their hands flailing around like that when they talk. They picked it up from the NFL commentators, I think it was John Madden that started the whole thing and it focused group it's way into all the talk shows. It cheapens the whole experience for me. I have even noticed Chris Hayes suddenly remember and start flailing again when the camera was on him. Even Rachel is now doing it. It's not news it's a show, with all the gimmicks, and flashy moving objects to trick you out of your attention and time.

(23,156 posts)or something that I don't consider very important. However, she almost as often does something brilliantly. You need to look at her opening segment on Wednesday when she described graphically how Ebola progresses in a patient.
Keith Olbermann also had his share of "Stories my producers make me do" which was always something totally unimportant.

(15,435 posts)But just to find out what the news people watch and absorb I turn to MSNBC from time to time. I HAVE noticed INCREASED commercials, almost 4 1/2 mins. at a time, then the logo of show comes up, then more commercials!
WATCH THIS SPACE! Yeah, keep watching the space, the space, the space....

Commercial Free and "Headlines of the Day" (Democratic Emphasis) are in the first five minutes of the show. Watch online or available to view anytime on Roku Box or stream with video and transcript. Old shows are also available on the site.
If you are sick of MSM this is one of the best.
Or even Abby Martin on "Breaking the Set" on RT America she's a bit like Rachel, but a real progressive who tackles tough issues (that get little time on MSM) and no commercials.
Here's a sample of what she talks about on her show:

(4,458 posts)All tell the same "rewritten/digested/regurgitated" stories-over and over.
It "feels" like they spend so much time pretending outrage over the GOP and then re-air videos etc..If I wanted to see that crap-I'd be watching a different channel. They don't ask the hard questions and the let "them" get away with not answering. MSM won't allow just any 'ol progressive on air, really and when they do....it seems only the ones who will use "talking points". Very few-just tell "it" like it is.
I too have nearly stopped. I record-and then fast forward...only to discover about 10 minutes is of interest to me-and yet-it's only interesting, not informative.
Sooooo, given that Bashir and Olbermann were driven out-we too have finally been driven away as well.
It's definitely Not the messenger-It's the Corporate Message that has caused my household to stop watching.

(4,458 posts)I don't care for the Corporate Script, that's all.
And - I politely disagree. She does "do it"-it's her job. They all "do it".
I do agree, she does break stories....and that is generally the "10 minutes or so I find of interest".

(1,596 posts)The other day she had a revealing connect between Leon Penatta and the Clinton farm of influence and was supposedly to do a follow up, that didn't happen, as far I could see. Lawrence O'Donnell also had a show quite a while back about secret service bad shit related to the SoS while Hillary was in charge, and no serious follow up on that either.

(67,102 posts)most lame shows IMO are Morning Joe and MTP with Chuck Todd on NBC. I do like Rachel, Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell.

(111,237 posts)While their editorial bias is such that you'll never see a positive story on Israel, they also rarely do negative ones unless there is a shooting war going on.
Their language is neutral and their in depth stories wonderful. The neutral language is important, I've missed it since the con jobs bought up US media.
Facts always have a liberal bias, so even with the neutral language, you'll feel at home.
Just be aware that they do have a bias.

(9,314 posts)I agree their indepth stories are great, but better than that is that one never sees Palin, Bachmann, Cruz et al. featured.
