White privilege exists, male privilege exists, heteronormativity exists, but generational privilege?

Nooooo, nope nope nope! The group is too big! The assertions to vague! I am of that generation and I don't FEEL privileged.

Mmmmm-hm.

Seniority has its perks. That 10% discount at Denny's really adds up. Hekate Oct 2014 #11
So you are in the "I am not privileged so there is no privilege" camp on this topic? RadiationTherapy Oct 2014 #12

I am a Generation Xer. I just think people should stop calling each other names.

I am not a group. I am a person. I gather everyone else is too.

I don't have a problem with Baby Boomers per se, or any other group.

But, yes, every human is an individual as well as a member of several groups - voluntarily or otherwise.

Privilege is an institutional and societal problem that will only be overcome by acknowledging it and working to minimize it.

because of my age, and not just the various senior discounts which are nice.

When I get stopped for driving a little too fast, or not stopping perfectly at a stop sign, I never get a ticket any more. I am of course always polite and cooperative, but I think because I rather look like mom, or more likely grandma to the young cops, they just don't have the heart to write a ticket. Lucky me.

I also got very kind offers of help if I seem to be trying to carry something that's a bit heavy. I am also shameless now about asking for such help if I feel I need it.

The young men who live next door to me shovel my driveway and sidewalk when it snows. They just did it the first time it snowed after they moved in, and I greatly appreciate it, so I buy them some beer every so often.

Maybe not everyone is on the receiving end of generational privilege, but I've been and I am very aware of it.

other than that they seem as likely to exist as any other and that the denial of such privilege seems to mirror that of other such denials, i.e. race, gender, queerness, etc. It is notable the hostility I see here just from suggesting it.
