Toadie!

The Toad at his finest!

The Transition From Host of MSNBC's "Guess That Soup!"

The first step towards recovery of any Villager is admitting that they are powerless over false equivalences and Both Siderism and that our politics have become unmanageable thereby.

Clearly Shuck Todd has a long way to go before he hits bottom and begins to get healthy and sane, so for the good of his soul and our nation's mental health I think we all owe it to him to help accelerate his plummet towards nadir any way we can.

What an ass!

8. My favorite Chuck Todd moment was when he called a sewage plant an oil refinery.
Mon Oct 20, 2014, 10:38 PM
Oct 2014

It was during live coverage of Hurricane Sandy. A helicopter was shooting flooding scenes and flew over a small sewage treatment plant that was flooded. Chuck Todd called it an oil refinery. As much time as that nitwit has spent an airplanes and he could not tell the difference between a sewage treatment plant and an oil refinery from a low lever aerial view. It was an "Aha" moment when I finally realized how stupid he really was and how ignorant the national media is as a group. These people do not know anything about infrastructure or how work gets done.

The level of ignorance in the media is shocking. Most of these people that are now in the media sound like they grew up privileged and protected in nice suburbs with never an interaction with someone from a lower class unless it was the cleaning lady or gardener. I really miss people like Molly Ivins, Mike Royko and Studs Terkel. They had a clue.

Oct 2014

He uses his power to help the more powerful, so he is useful to them. I just wish ordinary people would pay attention and realize that Todd and the pundits like him are dangerous. They feel they are above all the rest of us, a protected class of useful tools. Since they are immune to the harsh realities the rest of us face, they will not seek the truth about what is going on. The looting of the wealth of this country by the 1% is being ignored by the pundit class. I do not think it is all self-serving. Many of them are just too stupid to understand what is going on. Todd being the prime example. He thinks he is a brilliant analyst, but he is unable to comprehend what is happening, as in not able to recognize a sewage treatment plant. Clueless, really

Your analysis is much more succinct and to the point than mine.

them that the key to being a good journalist was to know stuff. (That's my paraphrase of the gist of his talk.) He told them to read, to learn, to accumulate knowledge about a wide range of subjects.

Today's "reporters" are just stenographers if they work in print, and talking heads if they work in TV. They haven't got a clue about much of anything.

48. That is a great anecdote. Had not heard that before.
Tue Oct 21, 2014, 10:25 AM
Oct 2014

That is my biggest problem with "journalists" is they really do not know anything. What are they taught at those universities? Do they ever take the journalism students out to see a drinking water or sewage treatment plant or a landfill? When I hear or read a so called journalist speaking about an area that I know something about, it is usually cringe inducing, because they make some glaring mistake. It makes me question everything I hear from the news media. I am especially concerned about any progressive journalists, because if they make a mistake, it is used against us to show how unreliable and/or stupid liberals are. Of course, it is OK if you are a Republican. Just look at the pass George Will is getting over his ridiculous scare mongering about Ebola. He was given his talking points by his corporate owners and was either not intelligent enough to double check or, more likely, did not care that he was given information that was deliberately misleading. Will should be fired or forced into retirement after that fiasco. he should not even be listened to about baseball. What a total tool, but then so is Chuck Todd. It still makes me wonder if Todd was put in place to damage Tom Harkin's run for POTUS.

Journalists that do not know stuff is how the right wing gets away with stealing from the public. If you do not know anything about the post office, the environment, how sewage and drinking water are treated, public education etc... then it is so easy to buy into the lies being fed out of the great Wurlitzer of right wing propaganda.

The day of Sunday shows is soooooo long gone.

When these shows started it was a way for tv (new back then) to compete with the ubiquitous Sunday paper

And it gave an opportunity for DC pols to answer some previously unasked questions..

These days there is NO shortage of coverage, and there is no need for yet another stage for McCain to lay claim to.

They should retire the genre completely..

Just another in a continuing series of wholly-owned subsidiaries.

What a disgrace! "Meet the Press" used to be the gold standard of Sunday news/panel shows. The GOLD Standard! Everything was measured against "Meet the Press," the most widely-recognized, respected, and distinguished of those programs. It's a mere shade of its former self. david gregory dealt it a serious blow. chuck todd may be its death knell.

CLEARLY the NBC brass doesn't know what to do about it. The whole thing should be scrapped and redone, or done completely differently. I think Maddow would be GREAT, plus, she'd be the first woman in such a position. I STILL think it would be utter perfection, and big ratings, to put her on Sunday through Thursday - Sunday hosting MTP, then Monday through Thursday with her own show as usual. Then, take her hour on Friday evening, plus the one Lawrence O'Donnell doesn't do on Friday evening, and turn it into a two-hour block of news, satire, and more, hosted by John Fugelsang. Call it "Friday Night Fugelsang"! He's got a funny name you can play with, he's cute, photogenic, and has lots of sex appeal, plus he's young and smart, and VERY quick-witted. And reliably liberal/progressive.

DAYUM I wish they'd do that! I think it'd get them the ratings they dream of, AND WE would be relieved of at least some of that damn cheap-ass "Lockup" crap. Cuz, don't forget, they'd rerun the damn thing as soon at it was over.

If this trend isn't reversed BUT FAST, he's sunk. Because they can't follow one ratings disaster with a second ratings disaster and let it ride like that. In hopes that it'll somehow magically turn around. Yep, do much the same kind of thing, over and over again, but expect a different result.

I'm counting the days. And I will relish it when it comes - and it's probably inevitable. I don't see how this arrogant putz salvages such a mess. Plus, you don't often get a long, generous run over many months or years to try to turn things around as far as what may be an unstoppable downward trend. He's evidently bringing in worse ratings than david gregory's. That's NOT why they yanked david gregory and made the change - to get a result like THAT!!!

Two part question Chuck. What is the most important issue in the KY Senate race for the voters? Since you've disqualified Ms. Grimes over not disclosing who she voted for I would assume that this would be the most important issue for voters to weigh when deciding who to vote for on November 4th and if that's the case do you realize how much of a$$ clown that makes you look like to the rest of America?

Oct 2014

That would be admitting that his critics on the left were correct. And DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN he CAN'T do that!!! He's saving face at this point, and trying desperately hard to justify his way of doing things. I'm sure, with the ratings evidently NOT improving now, on HIS watch, he's very painfully aware of what's ahead. He knows his neck is probably on the block. Unfortunately, with his attitude and his "journalistic" (I put that in quotes, and use that word advisedly when applied to a chuck todd type) world view, he does not have the tools OR the motivation to change anything. He is probably dug in. Probably reasons that it's THIS particular schtick of his that got him this far, so why change now? Besides, this dude strikes me as a glaring red-white-&-blue "blame the OTHER guy" type of guy. He CAN'T abandon that and save face. He can't bring himself to change his attitude, especially after betting the house on his own cockeyed theory of "journalism" that's filed under the heading of "it's not MY job!" Because to abandon THAT would be to tell the whole world including his critics (whom he desperately wants to prove are wrong) that HE HIMSELF was wrong. That HE got it wrong. That HE botched it. That HE is doing the job WRONG. That his whole mentality that he brings to his "work" is WRONG. He can't admit that.

We are surrounded by people who don't DARE admit they were wrong. They just don't DARE. They CAN'T. Can't afford to. What would their friends say? What would the neighbors think? What would the all-important Pox Noise contingent think? Their egos and everything they've sunk into their own CON worldview and their CON agenda won't let them. They CAN'T admit they were wrong. Because then they'd have to admit that their entire agenda and worldview is also wrong. They CAN'T go there. They can't face the truth. Just being around the science deniers and "no such thing as global warming" gang and "humans didn't do it" crowd oughta tell you that.

That was when I first saw him discuss politics on tv.
He was young.
He was fresh.
He wasn't an asshole.

In fact, he was quite shy.
Back then, in those days, he only "offered" his opinion on some issue of politics, or of a politician that he offered to add to the discussion they were having.

Unlike today, when he says something and then expects everyone to grasp their face like the Home Alone kid and exclaim, "OHMUHGAWD!! OhMuhGawd, that is the most brilliant, succinct, yet in-depth, critical analysis of the current state of politics I have ever witnessed in my entire freakin' life!
Where has this intellectual political genius, who also happens to be a handsome, hunka-hunka devil, been hiding for all of this time?"

No, that's not even how it was when he first came on the scene.
Years ago, he was bashful, not anything near how he is now, full of bravado and bovine excrement.
I don't know why all of a sudden he thinks he is so damned special, but I have a feeling that he is going to crater sometime very soon in the future.

And just for you, sheshe --- because you are such a sweety --- I thought I would tell you that Alison Grimes is now tied with McConnell in their Senate race in Kentucky.

New Bluegrass poll has McConnell, Grimes even
Joseph Gerth, The Courier-Journal 10:26 p.m. EDT October 20, 2014

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes are in a virtual dead heat just 15 days before voters will go to the polls, according to the latest Bluegrass Poll.

The poll found that McConnell leads by the narrowest of margins, pulling ahead 44-43 among likely voters. That result is well within the poll's margin of error. Libertarian David Patterson gets just 5 percent.

The poll shows that McConnell is in the fight of his political life despite being the most powerful Republican in the Senate and likely to take over as the Senate majority leader if he wins re-election and the GOP can win control of the Senate.

The poll was conducted by SurveyUSA for The Courier-Journal, WHAS-TV, The Lexington Herald-Leader and WKYT-TV, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. The pollster interviewed 655 likely voters on landlines and using a written questionnaire sent to their mobile devices.
