Soldier's Room Has Stayed Untouched For Almost 100 Years As A Beautiful Tribute

The memory of this brave soldier has lived on for generations to honor.

Hubert Rochereau was a second lieutenant for the French army during World War I, who died on April 26, 1918, from wounds he incurred while fighting in Belgium, according to the Guardian. His parents, who left his room untouched since the day the soldier left for war, sold the house in 1936, and included a clause in the deed that the room should be preserved that way for 500 years, according to the Telegraph. It's been almost a century since Rochereau died, and his room has stayed exactly the same as he had left it.

A late 19th Century town-house in central France that was sealed up for more than 100 years has finally been opened to the public in accordance with its owner's last wishes.

Louis Mantin was an aesthete and gentleman of leisure who bequeathed his opulent home to the town of Moulins on condition that a century later it be a museum.

Not sure why you felt it necessary to take a swipe at the us. Many people think something of France that isn't accurate. It is an image that was foisted upon my generation by conservatives as what is wrong with the left. Fact is, the image painted truly isn't what France is about. Does France have any of its own reality tv shows? Any of them revolve around houses? Extremely wealthy people and their houses? Anything about fawning over celebrities? Oh, I get it. They don't produce their own reality tv shows. We just shove our garbage down their throats and tell them they have to watch it. I really don't like this fake view of France people have. What in the world does House Hunters International have to do with this at all. And yes, you can find similar things in the us. Maybe not a 500 year contract, but similar. I wish US citizens would get out and see more of their country. You are missing these things and aren't even aware they are out there.

As a history instructor associated with a university with an excellent public history program I am very aquainted with a lot (not all by any means) of the historic preservation in this country.

Seem to be reading something that isn't there. You just took a lot away from a great story by adding something highly questionable. That's all. Nothing leads to not being calm on my part. As an instructor you shouldn't read too much into the written word. That should help.
