"I gotta tell you the truth, I'm tired of hearing about the minimum wage, I really am," Christie said during an event at the Chamber of Commerce in Washington, according to a recording of his remarks by the liberal opposition research group American Bridge.
"I don't think there's a mother or father sitting around a kitchen table tonight in America who are saying, 'You know honey, if my son or daughter could just make a higher minimum wage, my God, all our dreams would be realized," he added. "Is that what parents aspire to for their children?"
The governor went on to say that parents aspire to an America where their children can make more money and achieve greater success, according to The Hill. He said those aspirations weren't about a "higher minimum wage."
Christie's comments come a week after fellow Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin said that he doesn't think the minimum wage "serves a purpose." Unlike Christie, Walker is up for re-election in November against Democrat Mary Burke, who supports raising the minimum age to $10.10 an hour.

(15,189 posts)It's those parents who are making the minimum wage. Their son or daughter is probably making and saving more money than them. All those stupid Dem's who voted for this clown.

or a higher minimum wage.
Unfortunately, Christie and the other republicans parroting
this exact same talking point are entirely full of shit.
They just want to profit off of 'no minimum wage".

(82,849 posts)"We want to get better jobs for Americans, then we don't need to worry about the minimum wage."
Fortunately for Republicans, the entire popular media apparatus suffers from an acute case of amnesia, and nobody in the chattering classes remembers at all that the Republican platform in 2010 was all about jobs, jobs, jobs. What have the Republicans been doing for the last four years from their perch atop the House of Representatives? Well, they've voted to repeal Obamacare dozens of times. They've launched about a half dozen investigations into Benghazi! They've named the hell out of a bunch of Post Offices. They relaxed TSA regulations for screening airline passengers just before they themselves had to go home for recess in a totally coincidental temporal juxtaposition.
Other than that? No jobs bills. No tax increases. No expansion of federal hiring. They haven't done the first thing to promote job growth in the last four years. The multi-millionaires who control popular media access either don't remember Republican promises or don't deem those broken promises as nearly newsworthy as who Alison Grimes might have voted for in 2008 and 2012.

(65,616 posts)I bet he would go right along with privatizing social security. NOT everyone is a teenager making money to go to college...Gov Dumbass needs to catch up with the rest of us...this is 2014. A very small number of people own 50% of the planet.
You can STFU and maybe talk about minimum wage, it won't hurt your rich ass one bit. Heaven forbid he step into this new century.

(24,204 posts)Because, you know....
Several of my senior friends work at part time minimum wage jobs out of necessity just to survive. Not for walking around money, mind you, but to put food on the table and keep the utilities on because in the real world their pension plans went bust or the stocks they invested in to fund their retirement are worthless.

If they could do away with the min. wage, they'd be so happy they'd piss their pants because that would
allow their controllers to complete the race to the bottom for the citizens.
oh, btw, I'm tired of hearing about that asshole Christie too.

Whose kids go to private schools and one who got into Princeton (where Christie is on the Board of Governors b/t/w) because he pulled himself up by his bootstraps, right? Why don't these annoying peasants just shut up and get smarter and work harder so they can be more like you, huh governor? If only we didn't have to worry about a minimum wage. Twizzle twazzle twozzle twome, time for this one to go home!
