what matters is what he or she believes.

Crist has always been a moderate. He could have easily been a Democrat his whole career. Im not sure you can say that about Warren.

due to his Dickensian approach to prisons and prisoners. I don't know when he became a moderate but it had to be after he endorsed Bomb, Bomb, Bomb 'em McCain. If I still lived in Florida I would vote for Crist but I view him more of an opportunist than a Democrat.

It is sad that people here think that being anti-choice, pro-privatization of schools, lower corporate taxes, etc. are moderate positions. They are not. How in the world can you say he could have been a democrat his whole career? Was he democrat like as he went around absolutely gushing over Palin. You know she is an inspiration to him don't you? You know he currently follows Jeb Bushs education policies as if they were his own? Yes, the Jeb who is campaigning against him. Yet Crist need to privatize schools and get profits into his friends pockets overcomes anything even close to ethics. How in the world can you say he could easily be a democrat his whole career. He has spent his WHOLE career fighting democrats and their policies. That is an absolute fact.

Yes he is an opportunist, but will he dance with the one that brung him? I think he will. Yes he has been bought, but so has every other career politician, and will be until we get the money out of elections. If you know who backs him, you know were NOT to trust him. I think away from issues that are important to backers, he will want to prove himself a good party democrat. And his feud with the GOP might create some interesting cracks in that party. I'm not sure he is an enemy to every member of the GOP, but I bet he is of the party bosses. He might be able to reach across the isle more than we might expect in ways that the GOP leadership will not like.

All in all, we aren't going back the Florida of Walkin Lawtin Chiles, but maybe we are starting to see the end of the Bush Florida.

And if he can start to teach the Florida Democratic party how to fight, I'm all for him.

The only perfect candidate, the only one that you will ever agree with 100% is the guy you see in the mirror- but he isn't on the ballot. If you don't fight for the lesser of two evils- also known as the better candidate- you are passively accepting the outcome of the contest waged by those who are engaged. If you hate the choice presented in the general election you need to get really involved in the primaries. Crist is imperfect. Scott is a steaming pile of dung. A very clear choice in our imperfect world and worth fighting for.

Florida is choosing between two Republicans this time, but maybe this will teach them that if they vote for the fake Democrat, the sky won't fall and sinkholes won't open up under them. Most of them.

Scott is not only crooked, he's one mean SOB besides. That's what's likely to sink him. Crist might not be much better, but at least he'll lift your wallet while patting you on the back.

Of all the politicians who have switched parties, Rick Scott's propaganda machines seems to have been the most impactful on weak-minded Floridians and those who are only viewing the race from out of this state.

Even as a republican, Crist did more for teachers, Medicaid recipients, and state workers than most DEMS in this state did. He embraced President Obama and says that he recognized the historical significance of having an African American Pres.

It's so weird when comments about Crist on DU are the same as the are on FreeRep.

I'd like to know what a real Florida Democrat is at the moment if it's not Crist. I doubt the Crist detractors on this board would know.

I think it shows courage to speak one's mind openly, and when well-aimed, shines a bright light on the opponent's actions. Of course, it helps when the person one is addressing has a conviction for fraud.

For all the grief that has been heaped on Crist because he switched parties you have to give him credit for being upfront about his association with Obama. He hasn't backed away from it like so many other supposed "real" Democrats. Maybe one can say he has to do it to prove something to "real" Democrats so they'll come out and vote. But living in Florida and given the risk he's taking by doing this, he plunked his cards down and basically said to Scott, show me yours!

I do believe many Democrats here have been acting a lot like our Democratic leaders by saying how much they don't trust him, BUT will hold their nose and vote for him. I actually know people who have told me they won't vote for him because of this. I won't tell you my reply to them, let's just say there have been times I've toned it down.

My bottom line, I just CAN'T bear to think of having Rick Scott living in the Governor's mansion for another 4 years. I can't tell you Crist is going to be a great Governor, but he wasn't a right wing whacko like some today when he was there before. Florida just has to say to Rick... OUT, OUT DAMN SCOTT! Yes, I've used the phrase before, here and elsewhere but I do mean it.

So maybe we, the REAL Democrats are going to have to plunk our cards down for Crist and show the rest of this country that Democrats can beat the Repukes at their own game! Oh, please let it be so.

it will be like falling off the cliff again. I really don't see how people can vote for Scott unless well connected and on the receiving end for big $$$$$. And, IMO, many Floridians are not on the receiving end of big $$$$$ from Scott. And, Rick Scott is so damn bizarre.
