Celebrating the glorious success of the GOP Government Shutdown!

Published on October 2, 2014 by The Daily Edge in The Cutting Edge

...For some inexplicable reason, all of the consequences of the GLORIOUS REPUBLICAN SHUTDOWN are not being reported 24-7 on Fox News and other media outlets. Some people are even claiming that the GOP-lead shutdown was “no big deal”. So, to make sure you don’t forget on this one year anniversary, here are some of the consequences of the 2013 government shutdown instigated by our great American conservatives:

...Because of the shutdown, the Centers for Disease Control had “reduced capacity to respond to outbreak investigations, processing of laboratory samples, and maintaining emergency operations.” Which is great, because here in America we never had to worry about the spread deadly infectious diseases, right?

– Because of the shutdown, more than 2 million hardworking Americans’ paychecks were affected, food safety operations ceased, and benefits for veterans, women, infants and children were disrupted.

– But most important of all, the GOP shutdown achieved the larger goal Republicans were seeking: It sent the entire US economy into a tailspin–our GDP shrank 2.1% in the first full quarter following the shutdown!

Much more at the link, as they've promised more of the same... Until the entire federal government is nothing more than a tool of the Koch brothers:

They don't want us voting. The media hacks are out in full force. So many claims that Dems are going to lose big time.

There is so much hand wringing. Why vote, we are going to lose anyway. They are not progressive enough for me, screw voting for them! My vote doesn't matter. I hate Obama and Dems are all losers. Dem=GOP, so why the hell should I vote. Now that is a winning attitude, dontcha think freshwest.

As you quoted:

their NRA talking points and school privatization plans at the cost to the poor, elderly and disabled!

It's sadly proven effective in an area that has lost its liberal media presence, replaced with TeaParty, Libertariana and CT talking points.

We have a state legislature on the edge of giving the same groups running under the GOP, the voting majority. They made the state run with no budget part of last year because they wanted to renege on the liberal budget deal.

Our slim hold is in danger because the Democrats are no longer good enough for those groups who target only Democrats, not the GOP. Thus ALEC wins!

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right and here I am stuck in the middle with you. I'm ticked off, but glad you got my back.

Wall St and the military industrial complex wins either way. They get their monster on the right in or they have a corporate democrat that continues the same policies. We are supposed to be happy because the alternative could be worse. That's emotional blackmail and when someone does that to you you're supposed to stop playing their stupid game and get serious. We need to purge republican-lite from our party and elect more progressive candidates and stop playing footsie with the Rethuglicans. Also this is the same technique that is played by cops with good cop bad cop game...but they're both still cops trying to screw you.

Sorry I'm disappointed in Obama and turned off by Hillary. But in case you didn't notice there are elections other than the executive. At the executive level I'm sorry to tell you since you apparently didn't notice on your own that OUR party had been hijacked by corporations who are led by Republicans but have some Democratic lackeys. My favorite Presidents are JFK and Jimmy Carter. Trying to smugly roll your eyes and insinuate I'm "not one of you" actually sounds like something a Republican would say. But thank goodness Elizabeth Warren indicated she's open to running for President today. Check out a The Nation.

22. Well first off~
Wed Oct 22, 2014, 09:48 PM

Elizabeth Warren is my Senator. She is our first woman Senator ever from Massachusetts!

Elizabeth Warren

Senator Elizabeth Warren is widely credited for the original thinking, political courage, and relentless persistence that led to the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. President Obama asked her to set up the new agency to hold Wall Street banks and other financial institutions accountable, and to protect consumers from financial tricks and traps often hidden in mortgages, credit cards and other financial products.

In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Warren served as Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Her independent and tireless efforts to protect taxpayers, to hold Wall Street accountable, and to ensure tough oversight of both the Bush and Obama Administrations won praise from both sides of the aisle. The Boston Globe named Elizabeth Warren Bostonian of the Year and TIME Magazine called her a "New Sheriff of Wall Street" for her oversight efforts.

During her campaign for the Senate, Elizabeth promised to fight for middle class families and to make sure that everyone has a fair shot to get ahead. She called for policies that would level the regulatory playing field for small businesses and ensure that everyone - even large and powerful corporations - pays a fair share in taxes and is held accountable for breaking the law.

Senator Warren was a law professor for more than 30 years, including nearly 20 years as the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. The graduating class at Harvard twice recognized her with the Sacks-Freund Award for excellence in teaching. National Law Journal named her one of the Most Influential Lawyers of the Decade, TIME Magazine twice named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and she has been honored by the Massachusetts Women's Bar Association with the Lelia J. Robinson Award.

Sure hope you are not accusing me of being a Republican. And as for Warren running, nope, I take her at her word, just like I did when I voted for her.

Many of them. I feel betrayed by Obama like most Democrats do. And I've never felt Hillary, the President Of The College Republicans turned War Hawk abroad and at home, as a Liberal. It's bad enough to have to deal with Republican criminals but when our own aren't who they portrayed themselves as and they cover-up for or actually participate in Republican crimes then we have a problem. I wish you would police them as much as you do me but power and status obviously cloud peoples judgement. Here's the link on Elizabeth :

It may sound absurd to some but I believe someone is leveraging something against Obama or someone in his admin. I believe he is a good guy but I cannot explain the countless reversals from no lobbyists in regulatory positions to transparency to spying on all US citizens. Today it was reported that they want to bring torture back and except cruel and unusual punishment protections abroad. Can you believe it? Bringing back torture? What the hell is going on? I don't think presidents are in charge anymore...intelligence agencies and contractors are.

There are a lot of posters here I ask myself the same question. It's so damned obvious that some here are not what they claim to be, and they come here to divide DU, not to unite DU. The follow the crowd of "doom and bloomers" the ones who say both parties are alike, the president is a piece of S, the democratic party stand for nothing, and on and on. The only reason the get so many recs is because of all the hate they post, and if you ask me, most of those who rec them are probably not even liberals, democrats or progressives.

There's absolutely no comparison between the two parties, at any level.

That's why I'm always suspicious of anyone running down good, hard-working Democrats, with spurious and specious claims that they're exactly the same as the GOP, and instead advocating support for some pie-in-the-sky 3rd party troll with no chance of winning - especially when they boast of their supposed "progressive" credentials with an arrogant, more-liberal-than-thou attitude, especially with less than three weeks before an election!
