Wow.....How Many Threads in GD Decrying Democratic GOTV?

I mean, look....I get it. The constant Dem emails can be annoying.

Especially when you can't figure out the "Unsubscribe" button.

I mean, the emails are annoying when you think about it....constant reminders to do, donate, GOTV, get off your ass and vote on Election Day.

And the links!!!! To your local Dems who need support, to news, to organizations that need volunteers! Who has time for this shit?

So I totally get why people are complaining. You know, instead of writing thoughtful OPs on the legacy of the Iraq War as embodied by the convictions in the Blackwater case today.

I mean, Fuck Eric Holder, right????

########################################

Here's the thing....some small measure of Justice got handed out today. Four killers will pay for their murders....murders commissioned by Blackwater. And that was made possible by a federal jury, in front of a federal judge, in a federal courthouse.

If you think elections DO NOT MATTER.....then just reflect on who seats judges, who pays for courthouses, and juries, and everything else that makes Justice happen.

GOTV. Even with the annoying emails.

exactly how I can get paid for supporting a Democratic President on a Democratic partisan board.

Every time I see that dumb assed "paid operative" garbage tossed at supporters of the Dem president on a Dem message board (Prosense got it more than anyone has or probably ever will) all it did was confirm beyond all irrefutable doubt that the person tossing the insult out was as dumb, without clue and irrelevant as they could be.

The remaining handfuls (and yes, THANK GOD their numbers seem to dwindle more by the week) that still do the "Obama is a corporate, right wing sell out, Dems/Repubs are the same" spew never seem to be brunt of that particularly idiotic taunt even though that would make far more sense. I don't know if technically I'd be allowed to do something outside of my county, but I also contacted the people in a neighboring county -- the one I did in 2012. Again, there too, it was the oncall list that got me in, so it may be that I get a call on Election Eve like I have the last two times I've done the job.

Once it was checking in voters, the other time my job was to assist people with the machines. I always did a quick run-through showing them where they could see their vote went onto paper when I showed someone to the seat, so they'd feel confident using the machine (it was the first election we had no paper ballots for those who wanted to use paper, and only had one voter who was really nervous about not voting on paper that year.)

But the Democrats are not helping themselves by pissing off their constituents. Nor are they helping themselves by sending emails with titles such as "ALL HOPE IS LOST", "It's over. It's done.", "Accept Defeat", "CRUSHING FAILURE", and all the other great ways they're trying to improve the morale of their voters.

As I said in a political survey I got invited to participate in, I'm voting Democratic down the line. I'm also making calls for Mark Pryor here in Arkansas, because I don't want both Senators we have to be Republican -- one's bad enough.

But if you can't see that our party is doing something idiotic and admit it.... it says something.

Especially infuriating was the nitwit Russell Brand making the rounds on all the talk shows talking against voting. Who is really paying him to say such garbage?

If they were not afraid of us voting, the GOP and all the other Koch stooges would not work so hard to suppress the vote. Gee whiz, people, get out and vote.

I know from sad experience that hitting "unsubscribe" often just verifies your e-mail address and gets you on more lists.

As for the fundraising junk mails, I'm fortunate that my spam filter catches most of them for me. I'm not going to donate to rich politicians who couldn't care less about me if they tried.

I have a lot of important races on my ballot this year, and I'm going to make my voice heard on all of them. I've also applied myself this year to getting as many other people to vote as possible in our election. It's 'a big fucking deal' to me!

I don't get the angst I see online about not being motivated to vote. Maybe I'm fighting some losing battles, but at least I'm actively participating in the fight.

Yeah ... we all know where the unsubscribe button is ... but that isn't really the point of that thread, and you know it ...

OUR party, the Democratic Party, is FAILING to compose a message that resonates with it's base ... it relies instead on weird, extreme pronouncements of doom and gloom ...

Even if we DID unsubscribe, we would do so with the knowledge that our party, the Democratic Party, haven't a clue as to how to engage the very citizens it purports to represent. ...

I don't know about you, but I would prefer if my party were forming intelligent messages that would inspire their followers to stay engaged, instead of driving them away ...

Will is absolutely, positively correct ...

If you're pissing off your most enthusiastic donors you suck at marketing.

How did the Obama campaign turn people out in 2008? By saying that a big historic thing was happening and getting people excited about being a part of it. The marketing for this midterm seems to be the exact opposite. 'This is going to suck, give me $5' is not an inspirational message and it's not going to do shit for turnout.

If I wanted to be pestered to give somebody $3 dozens of times a day I'd ride the city bus.

Karl Rove, when he first started...by stealing Democrat's letterhead, then putting "come join us,
lots of girls and booze!" on them and mailing them out to voters.... Got caught.

Then, when Dean was running, the Republicans hired people to call potential voters at like 2:00 in the
morning!...telling them it was for the Dean campaign.. Got caught.

Suggestions the Ds are not doing the campaign right. Suggestions the parties are the same. The usual crap about "standing for something." Telling you the Ds are not idealistic enough (as though a political party could be).

So, a political party CAN be idealistic if they are solidly and outwardly right-wing. They can openly further the interests of the economic elite AND push for policies that accomplish just that.

115. What we're really decrying, I think...
Thu Oct 23, 2014, 11:32 AM
Oct 2014

...is that our Dems are demonstrably chasing money instead of real issues.

It's not that they can't do a lot of both. It's that they shouldn't have to chase money at all in order to do their damned jobs. Clean elections would give candidates and those in office so much free time that they could actually legislate.

The system that forces Dems to email me fifty times a day adking me for money also guarantees that only someone, or some organization, with much more money will hold their attention.

The system sucks, and makes our Dems look sucky when they do whT they have to do to compete.
