Wow.....How Many Threads in GD Decrying The NonexistantLast edited Wed Oct 22, 2014, 09:11 PM - Edit history (2)
decrying of Democratic GOTV?
I don't think I've seen a single post on DU decrying GOTV efforts. Have you seen any? Perhaps only an occasional threat to not vote by a frustrated Democrat who's tired of being mooned by the folks we put in office. And some complaints from a few people who think fundraising efforts should be non-imbecilic. (Look, I like like doggies in super-hero costumes as much as the next guy but... as the focus of political advertising?) It's pretty clear to everyone on DU that even awful Democrats are way the @#$% better than today's bat@#$% crazy Republicans. I expect that virtually everyone here will vote with gusto, and will urge everyone they know to vote Democratic as well. Once we're past the elections, perhaps we can get up off of our asses and take our party back. But until then... it's what we got, and it's critical that we do the right thing here.

I read a LOT of those comics when I was a lad, and there wasn't one story that I remember about anyone getting proper immigration papers on Kal-El's behalf. If the Republicans took over, they'd deport him.
Also remember that he helps people without charging them for it. Tell me if that sounds like a Republican. |

1) Will and Manny are not morons.
2) None of this will discourage even one person from voting. Not one. Seriously if you want to discourage someone from voting there are a metric assload of better ways to do it than anything they have said here. Because of 1 and 2 I have concluded that discouraging anyone from voting was never their intent, as if that was in doubt. These complaints that accuse them of doing so are nothing more than attempts to deflect any criticism. I'm a Democrat to my core but FUCK THAT NOISE. You have to walk the walk as a Dem candidate, and it helps if you act like you have a brain in your head too, and when candidates don't I'll be damned if I'll demand that anyone shut up about it because, you know, it's an election year. |

20. GOTV is mainly won in voter enfranchisement laws, passed years earlier.
Colorado, for example, has made great strides getting people to vote, yes, anyone, but generally, if there is a high turnout, Democrats win. This is why Republicans have fought tooth and nail to disenfranchise voters in many states.
You can't go into any high profile store in Colorado without someone pestering you to register, and because Colorado has mail in ballots, it is made all the more easier (most people vote by mail for that reason). The negative narrative won't stop people from voting in states that have good voter drives (mandated by law), it will stop them for voting for Democrats. Already Third Way Mark Udall, who led the fight against the NSA (and who broke it long before Snowden did) is on the fence because of this, and is likely to lose to the more charismatic Republican. This shouldn't even be a race. |

48. Well, I wouldn't call the Chained CPI 'slashing', but he does support it. Are you aware that the SS
fund belongs to the American People? That is a two trillion dollar SURPLUS, and that it has ZERO to do with the Deficit which Obama KNOWS and RAN on that fact.
One thing is for sure, ANY politician who even hints at touching that fund especially a Dem, and to my knowledge no Dem has ever dared to do that up to now, will NOT get elected. Bush tried it, he found out what the words 'the third rail of politics' actually means. That was the beginning of the end of his 'popularity'. Obama has linked SS to the Deficit, that is false. He has put SS 'on the deficit table'. No Democrat should even think of doing such a thing. 'Slash'? No. Cut? That is what the Chained CPI IS. And it is shocking that any Dem would even think of supporting such a thing. But Obama is not running in this election. And to my knowledge, no other Dem who IS running, has come out in support of the Chained CPI. If they have they will LOSE, period. |

We don't have a leader.I would bet that most Democrats and many here on DU could not name our DNC chairman.
And throughout this 2014 campaign season have we heard any notable comments from our fearless DNC leader? |

That voter suppression or stealing elections is not treasonous.
Treason being defined as acts against democracy. No shit. There are people on that thread making excuses for the republicans acting to suppress and deny the vote. You and Will are nothing compared to them. |

49. Haven't you noticed? They ALWAYS go after the Left. Both sides, the Third Way and the Right
Wing, ALWAYS attack the Left. They fear the Left because they know how popular real Dem issues are with the public. So they idea is to attack and try to discredit the Left which will tell the truth regardless of party. If someone is wrong, the Left cannot be reigned in and forced to remain quiet about it.
So it's not a surprise that we have some here who will attack REAL DEMS like Manny and Will while giving a pass to those they clearly have more in common with. |

54. Yeah, sabrina
It tells me that we are poking them pretty good and making them uncomfortable in the colors they wear.
It is true the Left is way more truthful. We are braver and not prone to depending on some icon to comfort us. And we admit we are not perfect. But we do know we are on the correct path of working to form a better union. Sure would be nice if they'd join us in that ask. Well, we set a good example. Indeed what I have learned here in 12 years has been fantastic education and it all comes from the scribblings of Left members. |

53. Why do you think the US government isn't recognizing this as treason?
Do you think President Obama is just too stupid or ignorant to recognize treason when it's happening publically, or do you think he and the rest of the US government uses a different definition for the social construct of "treason?" Perhaps you think there is something else going on?

55. There have always been enemies
Some - Kochs, as an example - have more money and power and they have twisted the political system so far in their favor they have many thinking that the vote suppression and stealing of elections is just a normal process.
Indeed, many in power play the game using the contortions of the system in order to gain even more power. Remember, it was not that long ago women could not vote, and the government endorsed slavery. There is great power in the masses voting and there are those who are not willing to give up power to the masses. We've come a long way, but there is more to travel. Calling out the vote robbers as treasonous will help us to determine the progress we make. I see it as a good first step, and welcome discussion. |

71. Does Obama see the suppression?
Of course he does. Doe he see it as treasonous? You'd have to ask him.
Most of the voting laws are state laws. The federal government rarely involves itself in state's voter laws. The judiciary can and has, and they did so when the blatant suppression of Black voters became all too evident. The crime is seen as a minor one mostly; what some of us would like it to become is a major crime: treasonous. |

79. Do you think President Obama is playing a game with voter suppression?
I disagree with the President on many issues, and if you disagree with him that this is treason, then that is fair. However, I do think he is qualified to judge treason. That is my opinion of President Obama. I'm not trained in law, but I do know law is subjective. I do know law is what certain people think it is, and I know I'm not one of those people.

'DU is insignificant and does not represent the mainstream'??
Okay, it goes like this. If there is a poll that shows most Dems here are no happy with their party, then 'DU is not representative of the mainstream'. But when someone points out some facts about how Dems have approached super important issues, DU is ALL POWERFUL and the words of DUers are enough to stop the entire country from voting. Lol! ![]() |
