Doubling down. Keep digging, Don, you might dig yourself right out of a House seat.

Young, however, sounds defiant in Wednesdays audio from the senior center.
On the recording, an audience member can be heard asking if he wants to restate the lack of support comment.
He tells the audience suicide is a mental illness, not a disease, and then says that he was frustrated at the high school Tuesday by three 18-year-olds sitting over in a corner interrupting other students and him. One was apparently the student who spoke up Tuesday, a friend of the victim.
And then he had the gall to say suicide is a disease, Young says in the recording. It is not a disease. It is an illness. Now a lot of times that illness should be recognized by a support group and it should be supported by the teachers that recognize this person has an illness. He needs help. Is it his parents or is it his friends who are not supporting him?
He says that issue, one of the largest in the state, needs to be addressed.

"IT IS NOT A DISEASE. IT IS AN ILLNESS"??? What the ... what....???

When people had to work and had to provide and had to keep warm by putting participation in cutting wood and catching the fish and killing the animals, we didnt have the suicide problem, he says on the recording.
Suicide comes from federal government largesse saying you are not worth anything but you are going to get something for nothing, he says.
He's losing it.

(34,648 posts)Every day he gets worse and worse. Maybe he has a disease or an illness? I have no idea how he is still in office.

(46,436 posts)He's always been a huge asshole, but he's really starting to sound deranged lately. I think we ought to give young Forrest a chance. If he doesn't represent us well, we can vote him in two years. I've lived in Alaska almost 40 years, and Don Young has been the sole representative. It gets old.

(34,648 posts)Right at the Fairview Rec Center. I have not ever thought there was chanc we could wrest the seat from his deadly hands before, but i see a light on the horizon and I get plenty of calls reminding me about Don young. I will buy myself a Costco cake with the buttercream filling if he loses. A personal party!
And yes, I see signs of either substance abuse or mental illness. I thought that maybe he was a drinker and lost control at times. May be a mixture of things.

(46,436 posts)He just has the mannerisms of an alcoholic. I think with Lu's death, he lost his anchor. Just a hunch.
I think we're going to vote early, too, since I'm poll-watching on election day. We go to the Division of Elections on Gambell since it's fairly close to where we live.

However, the voters do have a choice. I hope they exercise it.

(32,016 posts)In the latest poll, Young polled at only 48%. Expect the actual Election Day percentage to take a sharp dip, since these remarks are a Todd Akin level of derp.

(10,597 posts).... Is this old coot your Rep in Congress? And if so, do you have any idea why the electorate would vote this guy in, term after term for all these years? Does Alaska have low voter turn-outs? Jeez... my heart goes out to you. I sure hope the voters see that the old feller' has seen his better days. Go, Forrest Dunbar!

(46,436 posts)and don't turn out like they should. Incumbency - especially, since he's been in office since the Stone Age - and unlimited sources of money have kept him in office. The national dems ignore this race because they think it's unwinnable, so we have been at a disadvantage for years. Name recognition means a lot.
