Ebola in New York? Doctor reportedly rushed to NYC hospital with 103-degree fever

Dr. Craig Spencer returned to NYC from Africa 10 days ago, according to the Post. On Thursday he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital from his Harlem home after exhibiting Ebola-like symptoms: a 103-degree fever and nausea.

Spencer, 33, a Doctors Without Borders physician from Columbia University Medical Center, had treated Ebola patients while he was in Guinea, PIX 11 reported. He made a stopover in Brussels October 16 before returning to New York.

He is currently being tested for the disease, sources told the Post.

Don't know if this is true but he should have been more careful.

9. I don't know if he self-quarantined upon his return to the US 10 days ago

But PIX 11 is stating he self-quarantined once symptomatic, and the original story has been updated to state he was moved from his apartment to Bellvue with full Hazmat precautions. Which would suggest that he's not a complete idiot, and knew what to do once he started feeling unwell.

"The patient was transported by a specially trained HAZ TAC unit wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). After consulting with the hospital and the CDC, DOHMH has decided to conduct a test for the Ebola virus because of this patient's recent travel history, pattern of symptoms, and past work. DOHMH and HHC are also evaluating the patient for other causes of illness, as these symptoms can also be consistent with salmonella, malaria, or the stomach flu."

8. According to Doctors Without Borders, he was self-monitoring as per their guidelines..

Initially, the man contacted officials at Doctors Without Borders Thursday morning to report a fever, complying with the organization's protocols.

"As per the specific guidelines that Doctors Without Borders provides its staff on their return from Ebola assignments, the individual engaged in regular health monitoring and reported this development immediately," said Doctors Without Borders spokesman Tim Shenk in a statement.
