4. It's a "transition."
The memorialized soldiers in the statue are extending a hand toward the just-killed soldier, inviting him to join them.

8. oh so this has nothing to do with the mass shooting that happenec
In Canada?
Forgive my ignorance, I don't have TV and my computer cord is broken. Aliens could invade and I would be the last to know |

10. Err...no. It's ENTIRELY about the attack in Canada.
The dead soldier on the ground is representative of Corporal Cirillo.

11. The terrorist shot a Canadian soldier at their war memorial.
He then went to shoot up Parliament.

14. That makes it even sadder. My first thought was that the comrades up on the pedestal were
in the process of trying to help the young soldier who was just shot. I think your comment is far more on target, Travelman. Much more gripping and poignant.

18. I had to think about it a little while this morning
It took a little bit to grok that out, but once I did, it was just stunning. VERY powerful, and yet amazingly simple at the same time. The artist really hit a home run with this one.

20. Cartoonists do that all the time. Amazing how a subject can be so simplified but still hit so hard.
The most creative visual metaphor work imaginable! They often sum up what people are thinking and not willing to talk about. Cartoonists just blow me away.

26. Killed in the Line of Duty.
A complex phrase, sad, humbling, and yet inspirational.
As descriptions of deaths go, I'd rate this among the best. |
