As more Maine parents reject vaccines, public health experts consider a new pitch

Kelly Marshall’s son was just a baby five years ago when news coverage about a feared link between vaccines and autism had reached a fevered pitch.

The Bath woman was on the fence about whether to immunize little Miles. She researched the issue, found no substantial evidence that vaccines could cause autism, and thought back to her own healthy childhood as a fully vaccinated kid.

“We’ve been on time with every recommended vaccine since my son was an infant,” Marshall said.

A small study published in 1998 that stoked fears about childhood vaccines raising the risk of autism has been resoundingly debunked, and the British medical journal that published the study later retracted it.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Hurtful and inhuman. Also, the idea of being marked as an "other" smacks of dystopian novels, as well as horrific episodes in history.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: It is the parents who should have been "shunned" - not the childrens - if they refuse to take their vaxines.... A shild have no say when parents deside something from then - at least as long as they are under 18 years old...
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Purposely over-the-top for attention in my opinion. Yes, I agree, it should be hidden.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Sometimes it's in the best interest of DU to let extremely stupid and inappropriate posts stand. This is not one of those times. The death of a child for any reason is an awful thing, and declaring that one is "okay" with it for any reason is deplorable.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No rule violation.. Issue is highly debatable so engage in discussion. Let's not hide a post because you disagreed.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
