Florida AG Pam Bondi has until midnight to oppose lifting stay in Florida’s federal same-sex

marriage case.

Hopefully she will do the right thing, but it's all about politics, not people. All about politics and $$$$$. She thinks she's getting a lot of votes because of this IMO.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has until 11:59 p.m. Friday to inform federal Judge Robert L. Hinkle whether she objects to lifting his stay and allowing same-sex couples to immediately wed throughout the Sunshine State.

“She’s running out the clock, and I can’t help but think that it’s so much more politics than law,” said Howard Simon, ACLU of Florida’s executive director. “Would the Florida attorney general’s office be handling this case differently if it weren’t a week-and-a-half away from an election? Apparently the evil she is trying to prevent is that maybe marriage ceremonies will break out all over Florida.”

Hinkle ruled Aug. 21 that Florida’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional, saying he would stay his ruling until after “the U.S. Supreme Court resolves the pending applications, at that time, from Utah, Oklahoma and Virginia,” according to Simon.

Bondi and Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who both oppose lifting the gay ban in Florida, appealed the case to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, which has jurisdiction in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
