I just noticed this morning that CNN was replaced on the guide with a note that it had been removed by Turner. Its content has been replaced with MSNBC so MSNBC appears on both 200 and 209. Fancy that. I don't watch CNN and haven't for years now. Isn't that interesting. Off to research what is going on.

(91,937 posts)I believe he is doing the viewers a favor. If he would also block fox news, I might even consider going back to Dish

(15,681 posts)after episode 1 of the new season Walking Dead didn't air. They fixed that up in a big hurry. I would have probably just canceled DISH if they hadn't. And I wasn't alone in my thinking. There just aren't enough good programs to make it worth the money.

(34,119 posts)I did that and now NO ONE can turn to Fox News on my system!

(15,681 posts)It is one of the few channels we watch, well, my kids watch it. (Adult age, btw.) And I had just renegotiated my DISH programming/billing after realizing they had been overcharging me approximately 50 per month for the last 2 1/2 years. With HBO going independent there are fewer and fewer reasons to even have an account with them.

(15,435 posts)But I pay DISH for a service they offered and I WILL be in touch! I know they're negotiating, but then, come back and say... your charges will increase, yatty, yatty, yatty!
Ho-Hum, be around the pole with them many times. Got a big rate reduction recently, didn't ask for it, just asked them what the waiting time would be before I signed with another company. Had no intention of keeping them at all, but for the large deduction I can deal with it for another year. The deduction was a lot too!

(60,010 posts)We had Dish here for about 5-6 years.
I had to exam each bill faithfully to catch the overcharges.
They WERE responsive to reducing bill when I threatened to leave them.
but, we finally dumped the tvs all together about 4 years ago.
I knew that DISH had a habit of charging for "lost" satellite boxes that you have to return when you drop the service,
so I called and told them we were going off tv for the next 12 months but would probably come back after that.
Now DISH, years later, is STILL sending me " WE miss you" junk mail.
Apparently they love me and cannot live without me and want me to have very special low low prices to come back.
Such a warm fuzzy feeling, to be so wanted.

(15,435 posts)and we'll be gone too. My husband doesn't do anything that has technology involved. Never had a password, no cell phone... NOTHING. But he wants to watch TV when he comes in at night. He's worked hard all his life so I don't try to change some things. I take care of all our finances and just try to make the best of it. I know alternative ways to survive, but he just doesn't understand so much and I know he would get lost in a "tech" world. I would never find him again! LOL
I am making an effort to find another way so we can cut ourselves loose from all the WIRES! He's an older Boomer and just doesn't get the "new scene!"

(60,010 posts)Have to admit it takes some time and energy and interest to find alternatives to the boob tube.
fortunately, Mr. Dixie is a huge fan of radio plays and audio books, and does not mind watching dvd movies on the puter.
Once we got LED screens for the puters, the old tv screens looked like hell to watch, and that was a huge selling point in cutting the cord.
Plus he likes to save money.

(15,435 posts)My guy seems allergic to books, in fact as an avid reader (obsessive) when we first got married he used to hide any books I would be reading at any given time! Just imagine the FIREWORKS that produced especially since I'm a Scorpio. Not that I'm an astrological fanatic, but have found over the years that there are some traits that seem to apply. It takes me a long time to get really mad, but when I do my vocabulary knows no bounds and I'm sure he didn't know many of the words I would spew! You just DON'T hide a book when a person is in the middle of it!
He's a good man, can fix almost anything and has saved us many, many $$ throughout the years from plumbing, roofing, washing machines, dryers, automobiles, trucks and on and on. He's just not one who gives a hoot about all the new technologies, just says I do enough for both of us. If given the time I would know a lot more techy stuff myself, but my kids and a lot of my family live very close. Ya know, babysitting and all things "female" around the house, which includes taking care of the outside plants/landscaping, he does mow the lawn and 5 of our neighbors. But he has a huge workshop full of every type of tool and even a lathe!
You get the picture. So since I have a regular PC and a laptop he does have the right to say he should be able to have what he wants when it come to the tube. Of course he has to have all the channels and it's breaking the bank these days. So far, I've only come up with getting a bundle with Verizon since that's my PC/telephone connection.
I was happy to get the reduction down to $51.99 for all their channels with HD locked in for the next year. But it seems that year goes by so fast. For now, it's DISH and have had them since 1999. So given the fact HBO will be going off the grid too they are scrambling a bit. Too many of my friends don't like Direct TV and I'm told Comcast is just the worst!
Okay, now that I've told you my life story I apologize. Kind of sounds like I'm making excuses for DISH, but not really.

(60,010 posts)There are entire web sites dedicated to how awful they are.
We had them in SF area.
Bad bad bad...and rate increases every 6-9 months.
If Mr. dixie had had the sports gene, we probably would still have tv.
But he is not at all sports minded, so ....whew!!!!
He HAS survived 2 of MY Scorpio furies. (they were well deserved, too)
