suddenly these people want to shut down borders, ban people, force health workers and anyone else they see as having any kind of contact with Ebola into forced quarantine.
but they have been attacking Obama for taking away their guns, spying on them , controlling their lives etc.
how do people end up so stupid ?

(96 posts)At least that used to be the case. I don't want to be spied on and I'd like not to catch a disease. I don't want my property taken from me and if criminals/evil people are crossing the border I'd like for them not to be confused with innocents.
I guess its a matter of degrees in 'thinking what will happen' vs. 'whats actually happening'.

(96 posts)I have concerns when people like my best friends husband have to jump through 8 months and $17,000 worth of hoops to be welcomed into the USA when somebody else can just walk over the border. I know its not as simple of an issue as one sentence makes it out to be but its something I think both left and right could agree needs addressing.

(89,240 posts)and those who cross the border illegally also pay a lot of money and risk their lives doing it.

(96 posts)And my opinion is that making legal immigration easier and cheaper is our best bet to reducing illegal immigration. Border security is highly important but if we can get the innocent good people in through the correct means and leave the criminals out of it we'll be doing a better service to all.
And the right wingers had a fit over all the airport security after 9-11.
Said our freedoms were taken away all because of terrorist but it's okay to take freedoms away all because of Ebola.
Yea I don't get it either
Those same right wingers welcomed the security when they were afraid.

(10 posts)This is utter hypocrisy because on one hand they're complaining about spying and gun rights being taken away but support forcing just about any suspected to have had contact with Ebola. You can't be against spying and gun control and forcing people into quarantine at the same time.

Right wingers see themselves as gun owners (or at least they know and are friendly with gun owners), they know they talk on the phone and send emails that they think Barack Obama would be curious about, but neither they, nor anyone they know, is going to go to West Africa to treat Ebola sufferers. Therefore, it's "OK" if the government does this.
Besides, it was blessed by their hero, Chris Christie, who even got that radical hippy Andy Cuomo to agree with him, so it must be OK!

(31,940 posts)But they are involved in re-election campaigns. Scott is also involved in one and Christie is running for President. Since those are the four that have created quarantines then I would say politics is the main motivation not ideology.
