Ukraine elections say GTFO Putin, We Are Pro-Europe, Pro-West and anti-dictatorship

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/27/us-ukraine-crisis-election-idUSKCN0IF00R20141027
(Reuters) - Pro-Western parties will dominate Ukraine's parliament after an election handed President Petro Poroshenko a mandate to end a separatist conflict and to steer the country further away from Russia's orbit towards mainstream Europe.

U.S. President Barack Obama hailed Sunday's election as "an important milestone in Ukraine's democratic development" while top European Union officials said on Monday it represented a "victory of the people of Ukraine and of democracy".

But, reflecting the geopolitical struggle between Moscow and the West over Ukraine's future, Russia's foreign minister reacted cautiously, saying Moscow expected Poroshenko to form a government that would heal the "split" in Ukrainian society.

Poroshenko began power-sharing talks with Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk after their political groups led other pro-Western forces committed to democratic reforms in sweeping pro-Russian forces out of parliament.

"The main task is to quickly form a pro-European coalition for carrying out agreements with the EU," Yatseniuk said at a meeting with election observers.

Polish ex-minister quoted saying Putin offered to divide Ukraine with Poland

WARSAW (Reuters) - October 19, 2014

Poland's parliamentary speaker, Radoslaw Sikorski, has been quoted as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to Poland's then leader in 2008 that they divide Ukraine between themselves.

Sikorski, who until September served as Poland's foreign minister, was quoted telling U.S. website Politico that Putin made the proposal during Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's visit to Moscow in 2008 - although he later said some of the interview had been "overinterpreted".

"He wanted us to become participants in this partition of Ukraine... This was one of the first things that Putin said to my prime minister, Donald Tusk, when he visited Moscow," he was quoted as saying in the interview dated Oct. 19.

"He (Putin) went on to say Ukraine is an artificial country and that Lwow is a Polish city and why don't we just sort it out together," Sikorski was quoted as saying...

Ukraine was once part of Poland. Kind of a strange suggestion since Poland is part of NATO and an agreement had been made between Russia and Ukraine about not interfering with the territory of Ukraine some years before that idea was put forward by Putin.

Interesting look at what goes on behind the scenes. Of course this was before the Crimea annexation, or in the eyes of some, the rightful return of the peninsula to Russia.

Putin is really into the history of the area, sees things long term, and it's rather hard not to be as all these peoples are related by many factors for many centuries. The bonds were forged with bloodshed.

Putin and many Russians want to return to former boundaries and ethnic associations, IMO.

I'll post later on what may be Putin's winning card in Ukraine and elsewhere.
