http://www.mnn.com/family/pets/blogs/old-faithful-dogs-get-their-moment-in-the-sunWhat better way to honor our elderly canine companions than with a heartwarming portrait that reflects the many years of loyalty they have bestowed upon us? Photographer Pete Thorne does just that in his aptly titled project"Old Faithful," leading him on a quest to tell the stories of the most charming geriatric pups he can find.
Seen above in all his grinning glory is Elmo, a 14-year-old pitbull, and the first dog photographed for the project. The photos will eventually be the subject of a gallery show and a photo book.
Think your beloved pup would be a great addition to the series? Check out the "Old Faithful" Facebook page to learn how you can be involved in this moving project, and continue below to see more of Thorne's touching portraits along with the photographer's comments about each one:
"Jackson [is] a 14yr old Black Lab mix. There's something about the expression on his face that seems like he is peering into your soul."
"I shot Clovis shortly after his 14th birthday and sadly he passed away not too long after this portrait was taken."

(81,220 posts)We adopted an adult dog - Goldie. NO idea how old she was, and the animal shelter people didn't, either. They could only guess - they figured she was still fairly young because her teeth were good. She's been good all over, for about seven years now.
Goldie!

And I lost him too young. Only nine years. Gonna miss him for a long time!
But my 11 year old chocolate girl is still with me We mourn our loss every day. But we're working on it!

(5,997 posts)One time we were playing croquet in the back yard and he stole one of the balls that was in play. He did this amusing high stepping prance all around the fenced yard for 5 minutes until we were able to get him to give up the ball. Afterwards, he immediately ran across the yard an stole one of the mallets we'd abandoned to chase him. Huge lanky monster dog prancing around the yard with the mallet in his mouth...we chased him, but the game was effectively over and this still one of my favorite memories of Fred. Seven years later and I still get choked up...best dog evah.

(3,998 posts)She was 13, congestive heart failure took her. I miss her, but I know she was happy and had a great life. I adopted her at age 5, too old for most people.
