Congratulations to the People of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
I like to call them the "Gnats", simply because I'm a stick it in and break it off kinda guy, and a lifelong Dodger Fan (and I might add... NOT a fair weather fan; I bleed Dodger Blue just like Tommy does). Tonight, I salute the San Francisco Giants for bringing the Commissioner's Trophy back to the National League West where it belongs.
For those who have a problem with the phrase "World Series", I counter with the notion of a season that lasts all of seven months (April 1st to the end of October... starting in the cold and ending in the cold with unbearable heat/humidity in the middle), 162 games, half of which are played away from your own field in front of hostile crowds, covering a travel distance that averages 55,000 miles. There are times when teams play a game on Sunday on one coast, and Monday on the OTHER coast. I finish with the fact that "World Series" came from a time when the world was a much larger place due to the fact it took DAYS to travel to places it now takes HOURS. I dare say a team from some other country would have a hard time keeping up over such a long arduous haul.
So CONGRATULATIONS Gnats Fans!
I'd end with this question:
Does Bumgarner's performance in the WS make him a Cy Young Award winner over Clayton Kershaw? Compare the season numbers.
