The uncanny ability of Republicans to bring their opponents down to their level.

Republicans could never win another election if they had to talk about their record or accomplishments. They have none. Zilch. They have mostly been a destructive force upon the body politics of this country.
So how do they keep winning?

They resort to simple personal attacks. Call names. Label your opponent. Create a negative image of your opponent that is equal to or worse than your own. There is a reason that only 10-15% of the people approve of the job the Congress is doing. But that is not important. It doesn't really matter to the Republican Party. So long as they can make the people dislike their opponent as much as they themselves are disliked, they are standing on a level playing field.

So voters continue to hold their noses and vote for the one they perceive stinks less than the other.

they thrive on having internal and external enemies.

If they don't have any real enemies, they find a way to create them either in reality or in perception.

That's why conservative politics (as it is currently configured) can never solve problems because they thrive on them.

All you do is accomplish nothing while getting dirty and the pig enjoys it.

their coverage determines what "issues" people vote on.

in 1980 they made the hostage crisis the big issue. of course it was newsworthy, but hammering on that topic for 444 days was unprecedented. imagine if instead, they had hammered reagan based fabricated lies, his wardrobe choices, and his sighs, as they did when al gore ran?

imagine if republicans were universally shamed in 2004 for attacking a war hero?

imagine if the media gave as only as much air time to today's republican party as they did to the john birch society in its heyday?

Democrats must come to understand that the corporate media is also their opponent. They have to stop expecting a fair or balanced position from them. They cannot continue to get down to the Republican level of politics and expect to get the support of the American people.

They need to speak with moral clarity and vision. Lies can travel around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes...
