Let's get one thing straight about Greenwald

Last edited Thu Oct 30, 2014, 09:15 PM - Edit history (1)

Look people, nobody hates Libertarian traitor Glenn Greenwald more than I do.

Nobody!

But as terrible as Greenwald is, at least in 2002, when any reasonable person knew in their gut that war with Iraq was necessary, a trivial-yet-profitable undertaking, Greenwald stood with reasonable Americans: he was for the thing. He's changed his mind since (which in his case is a sign of weakness while the same action is a sign of strength in better people), but for a brief moment in time, Greenwald stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the best and brightest stars of our Democratic Party.

Now let us turn to another terribly terrible traitor, Ralph Nader. A man who, need I remind you, has money in his bank account. Unlike Greenwald, Nader has NEVER been reasonable, not even once.

Never!

In fact, a movie about him is called An Unreasonable Man! A man so cut off from reason that he was always against the Iraq War, even when it was a good idea.

And so we must conclude that while Greenwald is a most worthy contender, it is Nader that has earned the title of absolute most terrible person on Earth.

QED, baby.

Regards,

Third-Way Manny

that Americans have a right to run for public office!

Has anyone told him that Hitler himself ran for office!

28. Nader has been very useful for the conservatives of our Party.

He made a perfect scapegoat so the conservatives didn't have to take responsibility for losing the presidency. The American people did not want 8 more years of Clinton via Gore, but the Democratic conservatives wouldn't listen. They made a mistake and looked for someone to blame.

Personally, I blame Sandra O'Conner who betrayed our democracy.

7. It's a pretzel!

Hillary, a Senator and a very important public figure and who had power to change the tide of public opinion on the Iraq invasion, supported that invasion and has never repudiated that support.

Glenn Greenwald, and unknown lawyer at the time, with absolutely zero influential power, supported (with misgivings) the invasion. As did 70% of the U.S. population. Greenwald soundly repudiates his past support by writing an entire book about it.

Yay Hillary.

30. It just keeps coming. Billy-Bob Clinton dismantled the New Deal safeguard against

the banks gambling with our money. In 2000 the Republicans stole the election and flipped off the Democrats in the process. The Democrats shrugged and collected their paychecks, happy they saved their parking spots. In 2002 Georgie Bush lied thru his teeth and still got the Democrats to kiss his behind and share responsibility for the deaths of many thousands of lives plus twist the knife in the back of our democracy.
In 2004, for the second time in a row, the Republicans stole the presidential election and once again the Democrats shrugged and turned away, I guess thinking it's all in the game.
In 2008 the American people got their hopes up for promised change. But the wealthy continue to grow wealthier while Democrats promote fracking, Free Trade, domestic spying and continuation of the 100 years Middle East War.
Now we are looking at the probability of another Clinton, another friend of Wall Street to rule in 2016.
America can't get a break.

54. I think the answer is quite simple. Most politicians work for the 0.1%.

They argue and fight among themselves but it's Kabuki Theater. A lot of Americans don't bother to vote because they don't believe it's effective. A recent Princeton study came to the same conclusion.

I still encourage everyone to vote, but we need to look for other avenues.

10. Here is my problem with Nader in a nutshell

In 2000, when running for President he was asked about Dale vs Boy Scouts of America which was a decision which let groups that get government money and benefits discriminate against gays. It was a quite famous case at the time and any person who cared a whit about gay rights knew what it was. Nader, he hadn't heard of it, had not one flipping clue. It was his approach to civil rights issues in a nutshell. They didn't matter to him, he knew nothing about them, and it showed. He literally didn't care what would happen to gays, women, or racial minorities under a Bush Presidency. In point of fact, he figured those issues added up to no difference.

12. Nader's position has always been that if we fix our democracy,

then other issues will be solved as a natural result. Thus, he has focused on the broader agenda rather than individual issues. I don't think there is enough evidence to back up a claim that he knew "nothing" about those issues, or "literally didn't care" about them.

when there were several trees killed producing newspapers reporting on a person suing the boy scouts for discrimination is evidence of a total lack of knowledge and caring about those issues.

33. Boy oh boy, did he ever.

First Nader got close to half of those who could have voted in that election to stay at home on Election Day.

(Some people believe that many of those would be voters were caught trapped inside their seat belts, which had some Nader-installed back door computer codes, and wouldn't release the occupants until the day AFTER that election. And here all this time, the gullible among you thought Nader wanted seat belts for our safety!)

Then he fixed the vote counts so that Gore did not win, not even in his home state of Tennessee!

He also helped the Republicans who designed the ballots inside the state of Florida to make that ballot so confusing that voters there voted for Honey Boo Boo, when they simply wanted to vote for Pat Buchanan.

And you have no idea of what he has in store for us next Tuesday; I can't tell anyone until Nov 5th!
(or he will hurt my cats!)

Democrats who voted to let Bush start it. At least some of THEM didn't change their minds, they were consistent and still are, in their support, unlike Greenwald who changed his mind just because he found out about a few the lies Bush/Cheney told. That is no reason to stop supporting them, just because they lied. It didn't stop Democrats who kept on voting to fund it, did it?

47. Blaming Nader is totally misplaced. There were illegal actions that happened during

that election. George Bush's brother manipulated the vote count and the SCOTUS overstepped their authority thus violated the Constitution, and yet people want to blame Nader. Nader, who did nothing illegal and was acting within his civic duty trying to provide the American voters an alternative to the Conservatives running for the major parties. Many Americans were fed up with the New DEmocratic Clinton administration and didn't want to continue it via Gore. And remember Gore didn't need Nader's votes to beat Bush legally. Also there is no guarantee that had Nader not run, those that voted for him would have voted for Gore instead of staying home or voting for Bush. There is no guarantee that had they voted for Gore that the election wouldn't have been stolen.

The Conservative DEmocrats want to use Nader as a scapegoat to distract from their own failings.

53. Yes, we understand. You will never, ever forgive Nader for exercising his rights,

established under the Constitution, to run for the Presidency. How petty.

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at ME and the rest of us who voted for Nader. I will still call you petty, because the basis for your anger is chimeric. The Democrats don't own our votes, just because we're liberals. The Democrats have to earn our votes, and if they decide to move to the center right they should not expect liberals to abandon our philosophy and follow along.

If Democrats want my vote, then they need to give me something. For example, Jeff Merkeley in Oregon has traditionally tacked left with his actions - so much so that the Oregonian withheld its endorsement because he was "too liberal" and not "bipartisan" enough. Thus, Merkeley earned my vote, because by his actions he has shown me that he is willing to get the job done for liberals.

I admit it, I was once a part of Nader's Raiders. It was a dark time in my personal history. I campaigned, I gave money, I did anything he wanted. At that time, I was even giving to Greenpeace. I even dated an award winning journalist who was on Greenpeace ships, took photographs of the war in Afghanistan and worse yet, pictures for a book for UNICEF showing what happens to kids in war torn countries. Countries WE helped liberate.

But, you have made me see the light. I renounce all my idiocy of years past. I am no longer a Snowaldian. I stand with you!
