"A Maine nurse who treated Ebola patients in West Africa and has fought her state's quarantine rules has been ordered to stay at least three feet from anyone outside her home, according to a temporary court order from a judge in Augusta.
Maine's health department has been granted a temporary court order restricting Hickox's movements until a hearing can take place. She must agree to active monitoring, coordinate her travel with health authorities, not be present in public places, not leave the town of Fort Kent and stay at least 3 feet from anyone when she does go out, according to the order.
The restrictions fall short of the mandatory quarantine and forced Ebola blood test officials had threatened earlier in the week."

This was pretty much what she was already offering -- to not travel and to avoid public places.

(410 posts)So, does the tea-bagging gov feel like he won??? As weak as it is, this court order will be short lived.

(15,296 posts)as soon as we also require everyone with the flu to be quarantined and remain 20 feet from everyone (since, unlike Ebola, the flu is airborn).
Then I would believe that this is "medically" motivated...and not political.
Afterall, the flu is going to kill 15-20 thousand times more Americans this year than Ebola.
Consider this. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning, while being eaten by a shark, as you're winning the Powerball Lottery, than you do of contracting Ebola.
If you ever wondered about the power of the media to influence otherwise "sane" people, you need only look at the last month of Eboal hysteria.
Perhaps, sometime in the not too distant future, we will look back on this episode as the time the media "jumped the shark", and be genuinely ashamed of ourselves.

(15,296 posts)we're chomping at the bit to suspend habeus corpus for people who show no signs of being sick, and yet, requiring kids to be vaccinatted before attending school is "government nannyism on steroids"
It's insane...and we really ought to be ashamed of ourselves.

(42,585 posts)Does that mean her boyfriend can stay in the home with her and get closer than three feet? If he has gotten closer than three feat is he now subject to the quarantine and not allowed to go out?
Is she allowed to have anyone else come into her home? And what if they come within three feet of her -- do they have to stay inside for a quarantine period?
What if she violates it and is arrested and placed back in her home. Do the arresting officers have to go into quarantine (and anyone else that gets within three feet of her)?
The questions are pretty much endless.
