AK: Early voter turnout compares favorably to last midterms

FAIRBANKS — With five days to go before election day, Alaska’s voters look set to surpass early voting numbers from the last midterm elections held in 2010.

A little more than 30,000 Alaskans have already cast their votes, through either absentee ballots or early voting in person at their local elections office.

With only a few days to go before the midterm elections, the Alaska Division of Elections had received 11,263 early voting in-person ballots statewide as of 4 p.m. Wednesday. In a single 24-hour period between 4 p.m. Tuesday and the same time Wednesday, about 1,500 people voted early in person.

Those numbers compare favorably to the last midterm election in 2010, according to the division’s director, Gail Fenumiai. In that year, a total of 13,246 people voted early.
