There is a money dispute between Turner and Dish, so Dish yanked a few Turner networks and is blaming it on that liberal Ted. A couple of years ago Dish had a similar problem with AMC, and therefor Breaking Bad and Walking Dead disappeared for at least a year, as I recall.
TNT is still in the lineup, so it seems CNN, Headline News, and TruTV are gone for the duration. Nice Timing.
If you pay for upper tier, you can get MSNBC and Al J. But if you have the first couple of basic tiers there is only Murdochnews and it's billions of paid political ads before the midterms.
Coincidence?

(14,400 posts)Like CNN, Ted Turner hasn't had an interest in it for years now.
From Wikipedia:
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. merged with Time Warner, Inc. on October 10, 1996, with Turner as vice chairman and head of Time Warner and Turner's cable networks division.[17] Turner was dropped as head of cable networks by CEO Gerald Levin but remained as Vice Chairman of Time Warner. He resigned as Time Warner vice chairman in 2003 and then from the board of directors in 2006.

(21,046 posts)I am thoroughly amused.
Capitalist greed through Turner has done what I bet the DISH people would not have done on their own.

(24,395 posts)I plan on calling them to see if they are going to give us a credit for those channels while they're gone. Oh, and then our monthly bill just went up a few bucks to boot.

(23,156 posts)all of the networks should be live streaming the election results.
I don't even own a TV, and I watch stuff like that on my computer. Also, with any sort of major breaking story, if CNN doesn't go to live streaming, the local TV stations generally will, and depending on what's happening, the local station may have better coverage.

(2,012 posts)and was surprised at hotels where I was staying that when I clicked the CNN channel it went to MSNBC. I didn't know what had happened; a line on the TV said "Turner has removed CNN from DISH" so I checked it out online. I think this is a terrible time to lose CNN especially for travelers and progressive Californians.
In Colorado I had to lose Al Jazeera because Comcast upped my bill so high I couldn't keep that tier. I'm continually amazed at the power media corporations with their obscene profits have over what we can see and hear. It doesn't seem much different than North Korea and Russia.

(20,814 posts)but not Al-Jazeera. I have my issues with CNN, but I did watch it not infrequently, especially during the weekends when MSNBC doesn't have any news after 2 p.m. or so but only that stupid bullshit prison porn "lockup" and now "sex slaves of fill-in-the-city" and that kind of bullshit. These past couple weeks have been really irritating and frustrating and I've called DISH several times to complain and ask what the fuck I'm paying their premiums for if I can't even have decent news. I almost feel sorry for the one poor schlub who said in response that "well, you do have FOX News as well as MSNBC, don't you"; my rant in response may have traumatized her.
But now you've made me think about the possible ulterior motives behind this shit and now I'm gonna call them and directly ask that very question. And no, where I live, if I want TV, the only option is DISH. We live on an Indian reservation in SD and the tribe discontinued its cable last year, before we moved to this particular reservation (the reservation we previously lived on had cable). So Dish is really the only option, which pisses me off.
