I was there and saw this yesterday (Wendy Davis was nowhere in sight)...
Was I wrong to feel weird about this?
Thoughts?

(9,463 posts)...there is a brainwashing that we have to restate and reinforce our loyalty to an entity that is controlled by The Company and at the very least is not what it advertises itself to be. You have to listen to the national anthem and cheer for the troops who "keep us safe and free". I know it's because I have stepped outside the box the PTB put us in from our very first day at school. It's also weird to watch all those people buy into it so happily. I'm trying to think of some fictional analogy but I'm not as well-read as many on DU so perhaps someone can put an apt analogy to what it is I'm feeling.

The only creepy thing I see is Abbott.

(9,463 posts)to be reinforced. They didn't used to say the pledge at the race, at least not that I remember. Why are sporting events to the last one doing this and celebrating troops who fight in wars contrived by corporations and individual powerful people? Why do the people at these events conform to pledge there allegiance to a corrupt system?

(6,036 posts)Usually it's just the US and sometimes Canadian national anthems played. Maybe it was added just to give a role to the scouts there?
