I'm astonished that people are handing over their health care and retirement to the Tea Party/Kochs. But one thing we have in abundance in America is STUPID. It's propagated by the corporate-owned GOP-cheerleading media. Are Americans really THAT clueless?
YEP.

(2,830 posts)Social Security disability trust fund projected to run out of cash by 2016
A government entitlement program is headed for insolvency in four years, and its not the one members of Congress are talking about most.
The Social Security disability programs trust fund is projected to run out of cash far sooner than the better-known Social Security retirement plan or Medicare. That will trigger a 21 percent cut in benefits to 11 million Americans people with disabilities, plus their spouses and children many of whom rely on the program to stay out of poverty.
Its really striking how rapidly this is growing, how big its become and how D.C. is just afraid of it, said Mark Duggan, a University of Pennsylvania economist and adviser to the Social Security Administration.

(2,969 posts)There would not have been a single Republican Congressional majority in the last thirty years if not for gerrymandering and prison districting - i.e., if the composition of our government directly reflected how people vote. And that would definitely have affected the politics of Presidential elections as well.

(16,113 posts)They seem to need 60 votes in the Senate to pass anything and even if the Republicans take the Senate, they STILL won't have 60 votes.
