Some Election Day Music

Normally, I post trios of musical selections in the Lounge. Since it is the eve of election day, and politics are verboten there, tonight I'm posting a trio of songs to, perhaps, inspire you on your way to the polls tomorrow -- that is, if you have not voted already.

Everyone is heading for the top
But tell me how far is it from the bottom
Nobody knows but everyone fighting for the top
How far is it from the bottom

Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You will look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your rights. Jah!

While they're standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion

Poor people gonna rise up
And get their share
Poor people gonna rise up
And take what's theirs

Don't you know
You better run, run, run...
Oh I said you better Run, run, run...
Finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkin' bout a revolution

Why am I a Democrat?

I'm a Democrat because I have daughters who deserve the same shot as the American Dream as men. I'm a Democrat because I don't believe that the rich man's reward should be the poor man's burden. I'm a Democrat because I believe every American, regardless of means, deserves quality, affordable healthcare. I'm a Democrat because corporate greed is a bigger more real threat to America than Ebola or ISIS.

Are we really that chickenshit that we can't discuss and debate these serious issues, and whether our (D)'s are living up to them? P.S. If you think being critical on DU is going to swing even one election tomorrow, I strongly suggest you push away from the keyboard and go get some fresh air.

To Mr. Pitt, Mr. Rhett, Mr. Goldstein, and many others, I say this: I may support Hillary Clinton, and you may support Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders. Ultimately, as passionately as we may feel about our respective 2016 picks or positions, we must ultimately treat these arguments as disagreements among friends. Our real enemies are Rafael Cruz, Sarah Palin, Jeb Bush, Joni Ernst, Piyush Jindal, Antonin Scalia, Chris Christie, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, the Koch Bros, the Ricketts Family (a.k.a. the "new" Bush family), and their host of allies who will, if given the opportunity:

-break every American union
-dismantle all food, housing, medical, and educational assistance currently offered through our government
- shift the majority of the tax burden to the poorest Americans under the auspices of a "Fair" flat national sales tax
-not only not raise the minimum wage, but move to eliminate it entirely
- end all access to legal abortion, and possibly severely restrict access to birth control
- privatize social security
- eliminating the EPA
- continue to rig the voting game to attempt to keep themselves in power in-perpetuity

...and this is just for starters.

So even if you live in the reddest of red states, do what my wife and I did today and go vote the straight Democratic ticket, and keep fighting the good fight.

One final thought. Things may or may not go well tomorrow. Just remember that every fight worth fighting in America has been a two-steps-forward-one-step-back process. Keep the faith and hold fast to what you believe in.

God Bless America! God Bless DU, Democrats, and fellow Progressives who fight the good fight for the poorest and weakest among us! Let's see if we can make some good things happen tomorrow.
