Madison, WI (Ward 90) in line at 6:55 am already about 30 people ahead of me with several more arriving. A lot of enthusiasm!
Where are you and how big are your lines?

(36,063 posts)mid-morning.
Short line to sign-in and a short weight for an open booth.
I think that means good GOP turn out here.

(46,179 posts)I'm in Oregon, and I voted 2 weeks and 2 days ago. My polling place has a comfy armchair, a fresh pot of coffee, and not a single person to impede my progress. My ballot was mailed out on Monday, October 20th.
That's true for the rest of my state, although some households might have a line for the coffee pot.
If I'd waited until it was too late to mail it, the drop-off box outside the local library can be accessed 24/7, and there are no lines there, either.

(8,333 posts)But my precinct serves two Congressional districts. The line at my voting district was about the same as yours. Congressman Andy Harris is expected to easily win re-election.
The other district has a terrific Democrat who will be easily re-elected, Dutch Ruppersberger. Those lines were long! LOL! I hope that's a good sign. I saw Dutch on my way out and wanted to say "hi! I wish I was in your district." But he was on the phone so we just exchanged smiles.

(4,788 posts)I live in Maryland and we have early voting, so about 10 days ago, on a Saturday, I stopped in at the library and voted. There was a steady stream of people, but no waiting. I walked directly up to a poll worker, was checked in, escorted right to a machine and voted.

(14,400 posts)parking lot full, people on the grass at the local elementary school. Line moving fast.
It will slow down quite a bit as the work day begins but it's a really good start for a midterm.

(218 posts)...a heavily Republican district. I was #282, at 8:30am.
The line was a lot longer than I recall in 2010, but not as long as in 2014.

It could be more Democrats who are minority In district are voting. If it's just republicans voting hard to believe It's longer than 2010.
I am in same boat as you.A democrat In republican leaning area.I am voting for her in 4th districk for Sam Irvin for congress over
the tea partyer Hartzler even though she will almost certly win.
Plus I am voting against all amendements.

(36,286 posts)I think the infighting among the Republicans over the position of Highway superintendent may have upped the turnout.

(2,097 posts)Not that DC's election matters all that much to anyone but a resident, but since you asked: probably a half-hour wait. We had a choice of paper or electronic voting; I was the 44th person to turn in a paper ballot (at 8:00), so figure 80-100 voters in the first hour of voting.

(19,841 posts)Have never seen so many voters--a number of first timers it seemed because of the amount of help that was being given, holding up lines. They took away same-day registration which probably would have made the crowds worse. The Dem party reps were doing a GREAT job at the table out front, really pushing out the sample ballots.
Both Dems and Reps were disseminating info about the many judges being voted on--that is obviously where the Repugs hope to cash in on the removal of straight-party voting --because everyone has a hard time voting for judges. (tip--get the sample ballot!)

CARY, N.C. -
After months of campaigning, Election Day arrived Tuesday with voters ready to vote and have their voices heard.
Political experts expect voter turnout to be high on Tuesday after more than 1.1 million people already cast their ballots during early voting.
"I guess people care about who's in office and the issues involved," said Jeff Rutledge, a voter in Cary.
Compared to 2010, more than 200,000 people voted early in the midterm elections.
At the voting precinct in Cary, voters waited patiently in line for their chance to cast their ballot.

But Louisiana had a huge number of people vote early this year, so it's hard to tell.

(678 posts)Pretty quiet at the polling place at around 8:00 this morning, but Minnesota now has mail-in voting as well, so that may have affected things. Hoping for a big turnout, our local rep is the one I'm most worried about here since it's a swing district and HUGE money was spent here by the ratbags trying to at least get control of the state house.

(21,506 posts)I walked in and went directly to a machine after signing in. We had early voting here all last week though so I imagine many have already voted.
I arrived at my place (Detroit suburbs) and was the first in line to vote at 6:45. By 7, when the polls opened, there were maybe about 20 people waiting. By the time my ballot was done there were only a handful of people in line who hadn't gotten into a booth yet.
compared to 2012 it was much slower. In 2012 I showed up at the same time and was about 30th in line and the line behind me went on quite ways.

(12,051 posts)Not good, I don't think. It means lots of pubs came out to vote. This is a heavily Republican district and it will not go Dem even if every registered Dem came out today. So these pubs will have their dim bulb teabagger in Cantor's seat.

(78,249 posts)but that's not a huge surprise because a) two-thirds of people here vote by mail, and b) our office serves as a polling place primarily as a convenience for our consumers who have disabilities. We're not in a residential area at all; the nearest apartments would be about a mile away.

The rethugs are trying too screw teachers with some constitutional amendments that would allow them too fire unqualified "union" teachers!!
It baffels me as too why these seniors on medicare are voting against their own interest? of course, all they watch is faux news.

(32,073 posts)It was the fastest I ever voted. The poll worker said the numbers were up, but you wouldn't know it by what I saw. Granted, I did vote a few hours later than I normally do. I was #116. I had to swear that I didn't already vote today. The poll workers were disgusted that they had to make people do that.
I was pleased that Joke Wilson didn't run unopposed this time. I would love to have voted for the Labor Party candidate, but wound up voting for the Blue Dog Democrat that was running--not that I think he stands a chance, sadly.
Stellar
(5,644 posts)but I try not to vote first thing in the morning as that's when people on their way to work will vote. My polling place is at the school directly across the street from where I live in Chicago. But as I said earlier on another thread, it been quite busy considering some people voted early already, and I've heard it was a nice turnout as far as early voting is concerned.

(38,187 posts)I was the 80th vote. My polling place for this precinct covers maybe 800 people in this area and it was around 10 this morning. So, that means there will probably be a pretty big turnout compared to normal.

(1,587 posts)Got there at 8 am (juggling one vehicle right now, and son getting to work is priority #1). My mother, brother and me. The parking spaces were full, and we expected to have a wait, but when we got inside it was slow. About ten machines (may have been 12, but I didn't count), half available. My mom and I didn't vote for the sheriff's race, as for some reason there was no Democrat running and I despise the current sheriff.
Everybody was super nice and upbeat. Almost giddy. The Dems were out in force outside, several came up to us and offered materials, even a voting cheat sheet. Wish I'd known they were going to do that, it would have saved me from writing everything out! They were very happy to hear that we were strong Democratic supporters and had no plans to vote otherwise.
Judging from the amount of signs I've seen around our area, it looks like the Ds might just pull off winning this county. I hope so. Maybe I can come back in two years and say I was wrong, and we booted McCrory and his gang of crooks out.

(4,238 posts)No lines, but that's no surprise; I don't think I've ever waited in line to vote. The only time was maybe the '92 election, and I think I waited 10 minutes, max.
But there was one funny thing that both I and a co-worker noticed when he went to vote at a different polling station: although there were hardly, if any, voters inside, the parking lots for both places were full. Hhhmmmm

(12,041 posts)I did not go inside because I voted early this year, it is the first election in which all Minnesota residents are able to vote early so I expect shorter lines at the polls but hopefully larger turnout overall.

(21,839 posts)no line (there never is at my polling place), but about a dozen other people voting at the same time. a steady stream of people from what I saw. I asked if it has been busy and the said Yes. My area is pretty much Democratic so I'm not too worried for California - it's the rest of the country I'm watching and hoping.
Oh, and they didn't ask for I.D. just my name and address then they cross me off their list.

(20,135 posts)only 3 Republican candidates on my ballot: one for governor, one for attorney general, and one for state senate. Rest of the Dems (including my Congresswoman) are either running unopposed or only have a libertarian/green opponent who stands no chance.
