So you voted, how did you balance self-interest and interest of others?

It seems every time I vote, I find myself holding the felt tip pen while for one last time I rerun my reason for my choice, especially on things like advisory referenda.

It's surprising how often my penultimate considerations turn on my perception of how my choice would impact others.

Today it was a restricting use of transportation funds, badger care, minimum wage, corporate personhood, and elected vs appointed professional county management. Everyone of my votes was made with a belief that it was helpful or empowering to people.

When we do, I pay special attention to those with the public's interest in mind.

is precisely how I vote, even though I do so in the privacy of my home. But I have usually considered the consequences (for good or naught) long before I receive the ballot in the mail. The point being, we're not just voting for ourselves, we are voting for the greater good whether that is the initial intent or otherwise.

Good point!! And K&R.

Just one more thing that separates us from Republican voters. IMHO they lack empathy.

Since our medicaid program is being diced up I'm not sure if it's actually fair to equate the two anymore.

in which I wrote in Bernie Sanders. I detest Carolyn Maloney, but could never vote for the Republican.

It's a safe seat for her - if it were a tight race between the Democrat (her) and a more conservative candidate, then I would have held my nose and given her my vote.
