90-year-old Florida man arrested for feeding the homeless

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (WPLG/CNN) – It did not take long for City of Fort Lauderdale to make good on the promise to criminally charge those who violate a new ordinance that effectively outlaws groups from feeding the homeless in public.

On Sunday, the city charged three people, including two ministers and a 90-year-old homeless advocate, and they could face up to 60-days in jail for their so-called crime.

“I fully believe that I am my brother’s keeper. Love they neighbor as thy self,” explained Arnold Abbott.

90-year-old Abbott prepares hundreds of meals each week for the homeless in the kitchen of the Sanctuary Church.

WTF is wrong with the mayor, city council and police of Ft Lauderdale? Are the TeaBaggers? Do they proclaim themselves as Christians?

If the homeless are becoming such an overbearing issue to the city ,then why do they not create programs to help the homeless?

It is extremely bizarre to criminalize feeding helpless people. Criminalizing feeding the homeless is criminal.

This act of kindness isn't even costing the city anything but they want to prevent a hungry person from receiving a meal. They're not cats Mr. Mayor! They won't go away if you stop feeding them!

If you really are advocates for the poor as equals, why should they have no protection from food safety laws that protect everyone? Are the poor not deserving of the same protection, or is it take what you can get, poor folk, and be grateful?

What difference does it make how old the person is who is giving out the free uninspected food, no matter the good heart?

And I agree with you, food can be bad BUT we always know it will be bad if the homeless have to rely on a dumpster for food. How hard would it be for the city health inspector to pay the church a visit? Probably easier than all the paperwork for criminal action.

all pull up, serve a plate of food, get arrested, do it again...

I think we could bring the ass clowns to their knees, but it would take solidarity (some may have to look that up). Until they let him go. With an apology. And some city funding.

Wonder if spring break college students would like to stick those heartless and bigoted regulations somewhere up Ft. Lauderdale where the sun don't shine?

That would be fun to organize...

They just THOUGHT homeless folks were their problem
