Judge denies Alison Grimes' claim vs. Mitch McConnell

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd has rejected Alison Lundergan Grimes' request for an injunction against the state Republican Party, prohibiting the group from disseminating mailers purporting to be notifications of "election violations."

The mailers, that went to voters in at least three eastern Kentucky Counties contain the words "Election Violation Notice" on the outside of the envelope and warns "You are at risk of acting on fraudulent information."

In fact, the mailer doesn't alleged any violation of election law and is simply an attack ad against Grimes. The Grimes campaign has said the mailer has prompted concern among some who received it that they could be in violation of election law if they vote.

Shepherd didn't rule on whether the mailing is factual but said that U.S. Supreme Court decisions limit his ability to stop the party from mailing out such ads.
