It's over in Kentucky.

Alison lost. It would have been nice if she had been on the ballot instead of Barack Obama. But it was not to be.

The ploy to play the racist card worked perfectly for McConnell and the Republicans. "Obama on the ballot" was nothing but racist appeal in some areas of the country, and especially Eastern Kentucky, and there was little she could do to defeat the negative campaign of big money.

Her supporters were rabid and loyal but not sufficient to pull her to victory. It's sad. I'm sad.

...get off the expressway sometime and drive through the "back country". No question the racist appeal was the right strategy for Mitch. The urban vs rural difference is astounding and there's not enough urban in KY to make up for the stupid.

It was always a steep uphill climb, but it was worth the effort. Even while directly unsuccessful, it drew away a lot of GOP resources that could have influenced other races, so there was still good to come out of the fight.

I will say more people need to actually help with the ground game, human resources seemed spread thin though allocated soundly, leaving stones unturned that could have helped.

Translation: "we must never ever do anything to ffensed the goold old boys, because even if we give them medical care, they will still white the black man in office."

I know you may not mean to say that, but that is what that line translates to.

but she chose to not get involved in it at all. "Obama is on the ballot" was the racist card. I don't think it would have made much difference if she had come out and say she voted for Obama. She had to try it without him.

No doubt, many will second-guess her decisions.

She built up a helluva grassroots network.

This is just one battle. I believe Alison may have sparked something and re-energized Kentucky Dems.

She and Conway have bright futures in Kentucky. It's just going to take a bit more time for the population to come around.

She couldn't overcome the racism factor. I'm not sure if it was best to dodge the issue or tackle it head-on. We'll see what happens with Landrieu in LA, who decided to take the issue on.

Maybe we can learn from the (few) mistakes Alison made.
