I'm actually scared -- as in can't-sleep-tonight-Halloween-came-five-days-late scared -- of the GOP fascists taking over the Kennedy state. I voted for Coakley but am not optimistic because of all the endorsements Baker has gotten and the past history of electing GOP governors (Romney, Weld).
I'm also looking to leave because MA just voted to keep the filthy casinos. Also, there is a gun store that just popped up out of nowhere down the street from my house on a main street. I no longer feel safe in my neighborhood or my state. Should I find a way to move to Vermont where Bernie and the sane people live?
Or if I can't afford to leave, should I just do myself in? I honestly am terrified that we're living in the decline of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the Reich. If 2014 is any indication of 2016, we can look forward (or in this case, backward) to having Herr Jeb ru(i)n all our lives being a rubber-stamp for the wingnuts in both houses of Congress.
I obviously can't leave for another country. What should I do if I don't want to live under fascism anymore?

Humm
I've been thinking of that my self , I'm in CT
But don't move there if guns bother you
It's real liberal there on guns, no permit to even carry one.

(22,336 posts)We're surviving in Michigan, despite Snyder. And it looks like he's going to win re-election. We just keep voting. Don't abandon your state to the Republicans.
The Democratic Party wasn't expected to do well this election, but things will probably swing the other way in 2016, and that's when the POTUS is elected, and the POTUS chooses SCOTUS justices. That's where the big game is IMO. Relax and keep on voting every election. We just need to keep voting and encouraging others to vote.
Everyone freaks out every time the Dems do poorly in an election. It happens. Look forward to the next one rather than worrying about this one.

(1,454 posts)It'so just an election, not Armageddon. There'll be another one in two years. I'm old so I've seen it all. This too shall pass. Try living in Texas where I live- -- I've learned to be circumspect. People are entitled to their opinions, no matter how misguided. Just keep the faith, you'll be fine.

(503 posts)This was my first election, as I turned 18 this summer.
Also, which state is "not good to move to if you don't like guns"? Not Vermont, I'm guessing? Certainly not CT, as we learned tragically in 2012...
Does POTUS still get to appoint SCOTUS judges even if none of the current ones retire or die? I thought it was pretty much fixed at 9.

(733 posts)Even though guns laws are liberal in Vermont it's not like
you might think. It's not like people walk around everywhere with a gun on them.
It's just something most people who live in Vermont never give it a second thought.
They have a gun in the home for hunting and such...
