What difference does it make?-more than people think

Republicans own the whole congress and they control the budget process completely. It doesn't matter that the deficit is shrinking, they will push hard to cut federal spending. They've done it in every state they've managed to take over. They are going to do it federally. Government spending is huge chunk of GDP. They know that. They want to tank the economy for the 2016 election. They've been trying since 2010 to tank the economy. That's why no jobs, jobs, jobs bill has passed. It is why they never have money for infrastructure. It is why they want Obama to sink into another middle eastern war. A terrible economy is great news for 2016 presidential candidates. The 2008 economy made McCain impossible to elect. It killed pappa Bush too. The house and senate now can work together to push on the president. About the only thing the president can do now is veto spending bills, but not passing spending bill has huge negative consequences only apparently for Obama. Think they'll worry about shutting down the government. They did it last year and how much did it hurt them. They'll gladly shut it down again and longer to cut grandma's food stamps. Why wouldn't they? Shutting down the government hurts the economy and that's what they want. The voters have already proven they'll blame Obama for it so what again is his leverage! What are the voters suddenly going to be mad at Republicans? Of course they are willing to play the veto game with the budget and shut the government down and not pass spending caps... Hell, if voter managed to wake up in 2016 they still won't lose. There are million dollar lobbyist chairs waiting for them because they'll have played the good soldier. So what do they have to lose? The Senate was a big tool to use for the Democratic party to push back on the Tea Party's mad dash to run us into the poor house. It helped keep spending limits from the draconian cuts wanted. That control is lifted. If you are like me and rely on federal dollars to do your job, your job seat just got HOT. If you need unemployment insurance, food stamps, medicare, social security or the people with them to spend money to keep your job, then your seat just got HOT. So frankly Mr. Not much has changed guy isn't really convincing me tonight. The money in my bank account, my job, my home, and my state of security just took a profound hit. Yours did too. There is no sense pretending our lives got worse tonight and the potential for much worse things to come just increased substantially.

My former co-worker die hard Republican. Was happy as hell in 2010. By 2011 he was out of work because Republicans cut EVIL government spending just like they said they would. My company fired people because WE WORK ON FEDERAL DOLLARS. 2014 he's still die hard Republican (and still out of work). He hates Obama's socialism but survives on his military pension and social security. These are the people that were highly motivated to vote last night. I'm scared because they never seem to learn.

we just hit the class 6 whitewater stretch and nobody has a paddle or a life jacket.

And I was just starting to come close to breaking even. Happens every time I get that close, the world shifts gears and I fall off the running boards. Happened in 2001 right after I got my graduate degree... I've had two temporary jobs that paid a living wage since then, and this does not bode well for my future opportunities either.

We just got slapped with another 2000 and I am no more convinced that many of these election results are legit than those of 2000. I'm not into what's coming down the pike.

Was moving out of post docing in 2001 looking for my first "real" job. It took 1.5 years and one of my references is a noble prize winner because, you know, Republicans are good at the economy only they aren't.

a cold and cloudy day with a light dusting of snow, I can't even turn on the news. I don't want to hear the weenie-waving level of gloating that I know is oozing out of every pundit's orifice. I just can't take it. I have to finish preparing my home for a week long absence and go for a really long drive, probably my last. I have to go see my mom for, probably, the last time. I don't know how I will survive afterward.

I had aspirations and dreams... now I feel numb like I did each time W was crowned and when the 9/11 thing happened, and when the beginning of the overtly endless war began... I'm fast approaching retirement age with no hope of being able to retire until I actually drop dead. And I am certain now that I will welcome the time when my sentence here is complete. I'm tired and wounded and my spirits are now dashed, I don't think I really want to see what's about to become of the world I love - the natural world.

Now it will be so much harder to initiate the change we hoped for if it's even possible. And one of the first things we will need to do is reject corporate capitalism. Nationalizing all public utilities and commerce as well as credit and some other stuff that led us down into the rathole. Otherwise, our species doesn't even have a chance... and maybe we don't deserve one given how human nature works against all other life forms.

It's a sad day all around.
