It was when he promised to do something on Immigration reform at the end of the summer - but didn't. He was talked out of it by a handful of Dem Senators who were up for re-election. (oops)
I live in Arizona. When I heard him say that he was going to wait until after the election my stomach sank.
In 2008. 2010, 2012 there was such a huge GOTV effort here by the Latino Population for Dem candidates. Think SB1070.
There was voter suppression in the form of golly gee we ran out of ballots in heavily Latino / Dem leaning districts.
This year that GOTV effort wasn't there. I stay involved in local politics and that part of the population was pretty silent.
Would it have made a difference in who won the Governor tonite in Arizona? Probably not. The Kochs were very busy with this election. The tbag probably still would have won, but not by such a large margin. And this is Arizona.
And the down ballot races? Yes, these could have been effected.
But that's just Arizona. Let's talk about Colorado. The Latino Population in Colorado is over 1 million.
The Latino Population in Illinois is over 2 million. Florida? 4.3 million.
Think about it. We were warned. The Latino voters may stay home. They were done with the GOP but FED UP with the Dems. Too many promises broken.
I'm sure we'll hear more about this from people like Jose Diaz-Ballart and Maria Teresa Kumar.
But I don't think you can deny that delaying Immigration Reform may have hurt the Dems in this election.

How interesting - as I post this, Jose is on Msnbc saying the same thing......

(20,450 posts)a difficult time convincing Hispanics to vote because they're so angry with Obama over deportation and his inaction on immigration. The day he announced his reversal on immigration was the day we lost the Senate. Democrats running away from all the good stuff he's done was the nail in the coffin.

(5,811 posts)have done anything on immigration? One of the biggest obstacles for Dem success are whiny Dems who can't stay the course. Black peeps know how to stay the course because we know the world is a complicated case and sometimes you have to wait on the prize. I'm so sorry that my Latino brothers and sisters decided to opt out of voting. I wonder what they think they will get now with a GOP controlled Congress.

(710 posts)Obama is the leader of the Dem party, if any dems in congress are complaining and not towing the line, then it is Obamas job to haul them in front of him and make them tow the line.
Obama failed to do that, so Obama is to blame, he cant even get his own party members to follow him, how on earth can he get the opposing party to give in and pass immigration reform.

(39,451 posts)made a difference. He also was going to do some things by executive order. As a matter of fact, he said he will pass parts of Immigration Reform by executive order after the election - let's see what happens.
Living in a state with such a large Latino Population, I just knew he was making a mistake by giving in.
Take a look at that link I posted in the OP.

(44,129 posts)I completely agree, the latinos believed Obama when he said that, they put their trust in him to get it done, and Obama yet again disappointed and reneged on a promise he made whilst campaigning.
The worst thing is that Obama ruined future elections for the Dems, because Obama burned the Latinos when they believed him and now who knows if the latinos will ever return to or vote for the party that lied to them.
The Latinos did their party, they helped elect Obama, yet Obama never delivered on his part and this may haunt the Dems for years to come as they Latinos will never trust another word that comes out of a Dem leader again.
