American politics suck.

You wanna know why progressives can't find a footing in this political landscape? Because we've convinced ourselves that intelligent, successful and articulate people are too good for our vote. We have to elect every day men (and women) who castrate hogs and don't talk too good. We have to elect Average Joes.

We've got a media who pushes this idea that a politician has to connect with the voter, show 'em a good time, make 'em feel like they'd like to have a beer with 'em at a bbq one night. We want our politicians to be our neighbors and pals - the guy who held us up as we did a keg stand during that wicked pah-ty at Paddy O'Sullivan's house that one night.

Politicians have to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Why else would a grown woman parade herself on television and blab about cutting off the nuts of a pig?

Could you imagine Eleanor Roosevelt or Jackie Kennedy saying such a thing?

Neither could get elected in today's environment. They're too proper and professional.

To be fair, Democrats are just as guilty of it as Republicans. Look no further than the 2008 primary when Hillary went drinkin' in Kentucky bars showing off her blue collar roots. Talkin' like the regular folks be talkin'.

The problem is that Republicans seem to be better at it than Democrats - and it's because, on the whole, they generally ARE average dumb fucks pulled from the farm or the bar. When Democrats do it, they look fake. Could you see Elizabeth Warren talking about pig balls? Of course not.

When Al Gore tried to buddy his image up, it didn't feel real. It didn't, either, with Kerry. But they were fucked either way because, dammit, we don't want a professor for president. We hear the same shit about Obama.

Well goddammit - why don't we want a fucking professor for president? It's only, I don't know, the most important job in the world?

George Average ran this country into the ground with his aw-shucks personality and we want more of it.

The problem is that much of the progressives in this country ARE intelligent and articulate and educated. To the voters, that's seen as being pompous. Get your edumication out of mah politics.

It wasn't that long ago that we actually valued intelligence. But that changed with Reagan. Now we only elect politicians based on how they make us feel and whether we'd enjoy drinking a beer with 'em.

No wonder this country is so fucked. We've got a bunch of Gomer Pyles running it.

We don't even know if the result was legitimate, and you're already bloviating about what a bunch of assholes the American people are?

You're reading from a tired and well-worn script.

The same stupid shit gets said every single time Republicans "win," whether they win actually or just rig the fucking election.

You're reacting to the media, not to the facts of this country.

And if it was bullshit, you wouldn't have candidates devaluing their intelligence trying to act all average for votes.

doesn't make it true.

The fact that President Obama ran intelligent campaigns both times and won argues pretty strongly that it's just a Beltway myth.

The fact that he did was simply good campaigning. And the fact remains he campaigned as an intelligent leader, and won twice.

has decorated her entire FB page with the American flag. She further celebrated her 18-year old voting with her Party - all while wearing an American flag t-shirt. Literally wrapping themselves in the flag. They own it all.

The American voter loves the Chris Christie, Bill O'Reilly rude, narcissistic, arrogant bloviators. They do. These types are never laughed out of power, but Dems are routinely laughed out of office and off the airwaves.

Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and everyone on Fox News is a loud-mouthed ignoramus - and they are applauded. They have made millions for decades now.

So, yeah, time to face facts. Americans love these assholes.

I'm still a voting liberal. I never miss a vote. But we are and have been surrounded by a growing right-wing America.

We need to face facts. Americans love their right-wing party of assholes.

They keep electing more extreme versions and the democrats keep running away from liberals.

are not liberalism.

That's not even rational.

Too many people on our side get some kind of ridiculous kick out of pretending to be rebels.

Well, you're not. America is a liberal nation - one of the most liberal on Earth.

Our governments are radically more conservative than our people.

intelligence is considered "elitist". we need regular folks who live on pig farms and clear brush!

Charles Pierce wrote a book about it:

destroyed a democracy;

The decision in the 2000 presidential election.

The news does not have to be accurate or truthful.

Corporations have the rights of corporations and the additional rights of living breathing humans.

Unlimited funds can be used in the election process.

The Department of Justice actions that led to the intentional destruction of a democracy;

Refusal to prosecute those who crashed the global economy.

Refusal to prosecute war criminals.

Refusal to prosecute torturers.

Dismantling the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Senate and Congress actions that intentionally destroyed a democracy;

Bailing out Wall Street.

Not dismantling the too big to fail banks.

Enacting legislation that benefits corporations.

Enacting legislation on women's health issues based on religious beliefs.

Protecting our horrendous tax system.

The revolving door.

Trade deals that benefit the wealthy, not the workers, domestic or foreign.

Spying at home and abroad.

An over abundance of police.

Police brutality ignored.

Private prisons.

The war against cannabis.

The deceit and secrecy.

An unlimited budget for the Pentagon.

And on and on and on.
