I'm completely tuning out. Its not so much the politicians as it is the citizens of Dumb Fuck Nation - which is not so much a place as a state of mind.

(39,339 posts)Over 50 years. And living through gruesome ordeals like the 2000 election, which I hope turns out to be the worst political disaster I will ever witness. Marathon sessions of musical exploration do the trick for me...I love it so much and I only have so much time to listen.

(7,908 posts)start building up my callouses again (on fingers, not on my heart). God knows, we're going to have plenty of awesome song-writing material these next two years.
Living in the automotive culture of Southern California, I liken it to driving by the site of a bad car accident. You know it's declasse to slow down and look. but YOU. JUST. CAN'T. STOP. YOURSELF.

(29,603 posts)silly me. I'm still in that daze, and I hate it. I just keep hearing what a massacre and total annihilation it was that I just can't get over it. D*mn. and I have to quit listening to NPR you can tell they are just full of themselves with glee over this whole election......just gleeful. Ugh....

(60,010 posts)Serisly.....if I had to listen to the current crop bleached blonde bimbos babbling over the airwaves in what passes for "news"
I would have gone around the bend never to return.
It had passed horrible and entered the nerve wracking stage when I declared we would be a MSM free zone, 4 years ago.
I shudder to think what has been happening to the minds of Mr. and Mrs. Average American who sit and listen to the likes of Wolf Blitzer,
and to Faux.
More and more I find myself turning to books, music and carefully chosen movies to sooth my mind.
DU is one of the few sites where I bother to see current events.
And this morning there is black crepe everywhere I look for online news.
Nay
(12,051 posts)and walk in nature, play with Grandson Nay. I can't fix stupid, and even if I tried, I would only frustrate myself. I am not a persuasive person in general, and I'd never waste my energy trying to persuade some wingnut that he was wrong. I haven't converted even one relative with logic or kindness. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that will change minds in this country is throwing wingnuts in a dark pit. Their Republican overlords are getting ready to do that to them in spades, so let's see how it goes 50 years from now. Frankly, I'll be dead, and they'll have to get themselves out of the pit.
Historically, peoples who lose their tether to reality do not do well. They usually end up enduring 500 years of the dark ages. For us it will be longer because we've refused to even admit there's an environmental problem. All the pussyfooting and triangulation won't get us out of that.

(7,908 posts)just tune out, go all Quietist and not pay attention. Then there's the rubber-necker in me who can't stop myself from peeking now and again to view the carnage that will inevitably ensue. And finally there's the compassionate person in me who feels compelled to pay attention and try to ameliorate what suffering I can. (Not much, aside from homeless and womens' rights advocacy here in Los Angeles).

(45,358 posts)So far none of them can give me a single reason why they voted for Brownback. I keep asking, and they keep deflecting. It's quite clear that they don't have the first clue who the guy is or what he has already done to their state. They're are completely ignorant.
They are getting beat up real good on facebook by people (democrats) who actually know what Brownback has done to Kansas. They seem embarrassed for what they have done, as they should be.
