I'm sure they won't take the chance of "turnabout's fair play".

The only way of stopping anything crazy the repubs put forward will be Obama vetoing it.

first, he doesn't have to -- democratic filibusters are usually far less effective than republican ones because republicans have money and democrats have less party unity, so it's easier for republicans to pry away a couple of democratic votes.

second, there's no real upside as long as obama has veto power. there's not a huge difference, rhetorically, between a bill that the house passes and democrats filibuster in the senate, vs. a bill that both the house and senate pass, but gets vetoed.

it only matters for things that obama wouldn't veto, yet senate democrats could sustain a united filibsuter. that's a rather small needle to thread. it's not nothing, but it's not a lot either.

What I'm worried about is the repubs will wrap something important to average people in with some fluffy hand out to corporations and force Obama against a wall. He'll either have to veto the whole thing hurting regular people or sign it and give even more to the rich.

Could be an ugly couple of years. I'm sure the repubs are already looking at how they're going to f*ck with him with legislation. They're vindictive people.

expect a whole lot of "symbolic" legislation that they know will get filibustered or vetoed. they don't care, actually, they *want* such bills to be defeated so they can whine about it in their campaign speeches.

yes, they will try to get some actual screwing done, particularly regarding the appropriations bills, but it will be a small taste of what's to come if they actually win the entire government in 2016.

the presidency is now a must-win for us in 2016. we're doomed if we have a repeat of the shrub disaster.

It is going to be so sleazy and shifty filled with a lot of dark money and insidious voter shenanigans. Kochs and their rich buddies will pull out all the stops for this presidency. They could finally have the goose and the golden egg with the senate and house that they have purchased and put in place for their bidding.

They have both the House and the Senate, and I'm sure that McTurtle will continue under the same rules regarding the filibuster that Harry Reid used, so it's up to our President to control the damage.

When we do it it is seen as petulant, when they do it, it's considered stalwart. What I think we need to do is be positive, on all messages, talk it up, talk up the common man and woman, talk up the country, talk up jobs, and lower prices, talk up a clearly defined and limited national security strategy, talk up the feel goods, let the R's be the fear party and let them have throw mud, we need to stay clean and stay positive, IMO.

She wants to go full out obstruction and make the Republicans bleed for every inch they gain. She wants to taste every little, sweet, gotcha payback moment and wallow in the same petty, vindictive cesspit that spawned the GOP. I have to keep reminding her that we are not like them. We are Democrats, and we will overcome all this... we always have, and we are all the better and stronger afterward.

There will be real life consequences to this election, and the average Republican voter is no richer or safer than we are. They *will* pay for this. (But of course, they'll blame Obama.)
