Winning the House and Senate will be their waterloo.

A huge percentage just think the president can snap his fingers and make anything happen, so Obama is to blame for everything. They have no clue about the obstructionism of Republicans. Also, they have the attention spans of gnats.

Hope you're right, though.

it won't matter.
We have two years to convince people that things could be better if they want them to be.

a repeat of the shrub disaster in 2016 and an proper depression following.

i think we're tracking to repeat american history of 90-100 years ago. the wealth concentration and the demographic changes. republicans will have their last gasp of wealth extraction before it all falls to pieces.

this time, though, i don't think the violence that accompanies major social/political/demographic shifts will be in europe.

it will be here.

Nothing will change. The Pukes will continue to blame Obama for everything and a good chunk of the American public will be too stupid to realize they now control both houses of Congress.

if the Dems filibuster or obstruct in any way or if President Obama vetoes legislation put in front of him by the Rethug controlled Congress or puts forth some Executive Orders - they will make so much noise and the MSM will pick up on it and make the Dems and the President look like demons. The Rethugs will do a 180 and attack the Dems for the same strategy that they employed over the last 6 years. All at the same time saying to the American Public - you really look good Mrs. Cleaver.

I call this their Eddie Haskell strategy.

11. Why the Dems were't doing this from day one I have no idea.

The Dems have been too timid and allowed the Republicans to both filibuster AND get away with it.

Not once did the Dems or Obama haul out the bully pulpit and whip the R's for these antics.

The fact that Boehner can filibuster or hold up appointments endlessly, and then blame Obama for the obstruction, and have people believe him is telling.

I've been waiting since 2000 for the Dems to show teeth and, besides Dean, they've been toothless old cats. I'm sick of waiting.

My real opinion? I think we are moving into the space currently filled by Great Britain, i.e. a once significant world power brought down by its own excesses and poor judgment. Economic collapse is not out of the question (we almost managed it a few years back) and I wouldn't be surprised by small, isolated uprisings among the well armed but "challenged" on the right. You know there were armed uprisings during the Great Depression, right?

Years ago I read a book--I'll explain what that is later, kids--called "It Can't Happen Here" which laid out a scenario showing how it really could (rise of fascism/Nazism in the US). Great book I think was written by SInclair Lewis. Shook me up a lot and stuck with me ever since.

Collapse of US dominance in the world? Certainly can happen and seems more likely to me every day. Where do we go from here. No idea except it'll probably be better than it might be, but nowhere near as good as we believe.

At 69 I recognize I have lived through a blessed period in the world's history, at least so far as life in the US is concerned, but the curtains are closing and I feel sorry for my grandkids.

So it goes...
