Well liberal members of this board - I hope you're happy

We lost last night because of you.

Sure you all voted straight Dem ticket but some of you probably held your nose while doing so. That gesture alone depressed the vote in your precinct by 20-30 votes at least.

Your purity tests left us with awful candidates like Mark Pryor. If you had just listened to the sensible adults in the party we could have had viable, poll tested, centrist winners instead of the likes of lefties like Michelle Nunn and Alison Grimes.

It's time for us to lick our wounds and look ahead to 2016.

Hopefully last night's results will be a big wake up call to the left and they'll get out of the way and let the adults in the party handle the next election.

It's time to get ready for Hillary.

many other candidates followed her lead and lost.

The ones like Al Franken, who campaigned on the ACA and the rest of the administrations accomplishments won.

If her decision making in 2016 continues with running away from the president and dem principles the irony of another Al Gore-like distancing will be almost karmic.

This time the Clintons will be the ones running away from a sitting dem president but the results will be the same.

Wed Nov 5, 2014, 03:38 PM
Nov 2014

More of the same? I hear the same happy horsesh!t every time we get our asses kicked. Time to lick our wounds and look to the next election. Why? I have been voting a long effing time and I keep seeing things slide into the toilet. In yesterday's election I didn't even have choices for some of the offices. Unless you consider an R and an L a "choice."

So I am supposed to have multiple spontaneous orgasms over perpetuating another dynasty (Hillary)? A right of center Democrat? I think Mike Malloy and Hartmann are right. It's not bad enough yet. People aren't suffering enough to make them pull their heads out of their asses. Maybe a President Cruz or Paul would do the trick.

How can Democrats be so gd stupid: to run away from their President and what he has managed (despite obstruction) to accomplish? For that matter, why doesn't President Obama go on the offensive? Fireside chat kind talks to the American sheeple? I mean all they hear now is right wing b.s.

Do you really think there's going to be a "wave of blue" washing over the country in 2016? If you believe that, then by all means buy some prime land in South Florida. With Rick "Skeletor" Scott..... It's not going to happen.

I would really love to renounce my citizenship and get the hell out of that fetid, wasting country while I still can. But even that is almost impossible.

Randi Rhodes must be laughing her ass off. I hope for her sake she was able to get out before everything collapses.

I almost feel like becoming a Republican. All I have to do is pull the plug on any progressive sites I visit, sit back and slowly turn into a vegetable. See ?? It's easy.

Wed Nov 5, 2014, 06:00 PM
Nov 2014

Those have been on the White House youtube channels, websites and iTunes every single week since 2009, and in videos on the above mentioned and Obama friendly sites like TOD, often daily.

Just because it wasn't on MSM, which has been proven to edit out or not at all report but distort, every single word out of this man's mouth for 6 years, is not his fault. He has had an unrelenting travel schedule and gone to every state that would have him, and some where no official would greet or talk to him.

He has talked tough in all those venues, but he's not allowed on MSM. Because we are controlled by that group of media that you mention as 'I mean all they hear now is right wing b.s.' If that is your source, Faux and MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR and every other mealy mouthed media venue, that is what you will think, too.

Many of us realized this POTUS has been under a media blackout for years and even if on CSPAN or other channels for SOTU and other events, they give more time to his detractors than him, speak over and don't allow his voice to be heard. Obama is not a dictator who can order them to cover him lock step every day. That is not going to happen and he should not do that.

The media have chosen, because their owners have, to make sure that he isn't heard. I haven't even gone into what they did to radio with shutting down all progressive voices and cutting them off the air, while continuing to push the rightwingers.

If you don't like the current crop of those making the leap and running for office, your incessant whine about "sameness" is solved by you either running or encouraging a diffent political animal to run for office. who caved on every issue that is important to Dem voters. Why does OUR party refuse to listen to their voters? Republicans won because they DO listen to their base. When Dems start doing the same, they will get the enthusiasm they had back in 2008, but next time, they will have to prove they intend to fight for the agenda they run on, that a Dem president will appoint a Dem Cabinet, that no Dem will ever put SS within grasp of its Right wing enemies, among other things.

Keep on blaming the voters and keep on losing. Listen to the voters and win.

Thu Nov 6, 2014, 12:37 PM
Nov 2014

wanted to get that out of the way as assumptions, such as yours, are part of why more and more voters are angry, note I said 'VOTERS'.

What you SHOULD be doing if you don't want to continue to be in the minority, is to speak to those who DID NOT VOTE and actually find out why they are growing in number with every election. But perhaps you don't mind remaining in the minority because it sure won't bring people to the ballot box to constantly lash out at voters.

It is interesting that you completely ignore the legitimate concerns of millions of Americans, which of course is exactly the REASON why Dems are again in the minority. Who is advising this Party? Is THIS their winning strategy? Attack the people?? Well, it isn't working, is it?

But back to being in the minority. Perhaps you forgot that when Dems WERE in the majority, THANKS TO THE VOTERS, they claimed they could not get anything done because of the MINORITY's 'obstructionism'. I remember asking how on earth the MINORITY could have so much power.

Well, if Republicans could get THEIR way while in the minority so often, perhaps NOW Dems can take a leaf out of their book, and obstruct every wrong decision they try to make. Iow, they, according to the defenders of Dems caving on important issue, were WAY MORE POWERFUL in the minority, no? Isn't that what you told us?? Are you going to change your mind about that now? If not, then why should we worry because for years we've been told that the Minority Wins.

I'm looking forward now to Dems making sure the Right gets none of their agenda passed just as the Right were able to wield so much power when they were in the Minority.

what they do is work with who ever is in the charge. that how we got some of the justices on scotus. dems should have filibustered every justice bush threw up.but they didnt and you expect that they will now. i dont share you conviction. i believe they will wallow in minority and moan about how the cons wont let them have confrence rooms. they will pass gop friendly bills nominate gop friendly judges all the while saying there's nothing they can do because we're in the minority .

the people will see now that the gop is in charge the gridlock is gone and things are getting done-they wont pay enough attention to it to know the horrors of what is getting done but as the elections show they dont care all they will understand is that government didnt work till the gop took charge.

I'm not sure we should assume that.

The people running the party have their own concerns, their own careers, their own incomes to think about.

If they get paid to raise money whether we win or lose, if they have lots of connections for lobbying-type jobs after they're through here ... well, they have to act disappointed, but how does losing hurt them?

And that's aside from the possibility that some are getting too much corporate money to carry out their duties honestly.

The party may refuse to listen to us forever.

I am an Independent, and yes I voted pretty much a straight Democratic Ticket.
(except for County Council which did not show party affiliation, and I wrote in my name there just because it was asking for 4 people. I voted for 3, wrote in one.)

I do not look for party purity.
I mostly vote against the Republican party at this time.

Their campaign sucked, and let me show you some ways:

1 - Their email campaign was a stinker. When you tick off even your base with your emails, you're just not providing good will.
2 - Motivation was just not there. When Democratic candidates can't be proud of what they have accomplished and instead takes in a further to the right position... That is Idiotic. The idea is to differentiate yourself from the opposition. They are Democrats, not "Republican-lite". It is also one of the reasons I get frustrated with Obama, he took too many positions that alienated those at the left. The Republicans were NEVER going to support any of it any way. Might as well go for what is actually good.

How could we, as supporters fight for them when they back-track on positions that we promote?

3 - Don't rely on just money. One of my biggest gripes on their email campaign was the huge push for just asking money. You know it was only 3 days before the election when they finally showed me volunteering options through email. If I didn't do my own digging, I would never have been able to do any phone calls or canvassing.

I will vote for Clinton if she wins the primaries. During the primaries, I will support whomever I think is best.

Nov 2014

We lost because the Democratic party has become 'halfpublican' and right wing, and thus largely irrelevant. If we want to become relevant again, we must return to our roots.

We controlled both houses of congress for 40 years, between 1954 - 1994. We did so by being the party of the left.

Democrats are not halfpublicans. Democrats are not centrists. Democrats are the left.

I don't see how we could have done worse, so maybe next time we go with our strength. The ACA is working, unemployment is down, gas prices are down, Ebola is being held in check, how in the world do we lose a wave election? The Republican noise machine rewrote the reality and we let it happen.

As Harry Truman said, "If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time"

We got our butts kicked. We need to find ways to get candidates people can support enthusiastically but the way to do that is not to talk about "purity tests" etc. It is to get more people involved in the primary process. How do we do that? Adopting Republican language ("adults in the party&quot isn't going to do it, that is for sure. Hillary will lose if everyone "gets out of the way" for her. Why do you think Obama won in 2008? Not because everyone got out of the way for him. Having to go head to head with Hillary made him a better candidate and expanded the Democratic electorate in the general election.

I find your OP offensive.

We lost last night because the "liberal" and progressive people didn't trumpet the successes of the Obama administration enough. We lost because the GOP appealed to their old, white base who will actually get off their asses and vote and who have ample voting machines in their white precincts.

Hillary is not my favorite candidate. She's far too hawkish and corporatist.

There are two competing tactics.

One is: we didn't go hard left enough and had pablum for candidates, and there were nothing for liberals or independents to latch onto, so they either stayed away or voted for the more headstrong GOP candidate. So, we should go hard and get some real progressive liberals out there to provide a fresh voice and a fresh choice.

The second is: we must work towards a consensus and support candidates that all members of the Democratic Party can decently rally being. No one is going to be the perfect candidate, so everyone knows that there is something lacking from the chosen candidate, but let's try to unite behind the chosen one regardless.

Either tactic can work, depending on where, who the opponent is, how the local electorate (local at the district to the state level) are with regards to partisanship and fervor.

But for today, we must sift through the destruction and see why some candidates lost and why some candidates won. It's a bit too early to tell, but it will be worthwhile to do some forensics on the election results, do some polling, do some boots on the ground hard questions to determine what were the causes. I doubt there is one or even many countrywide cause(s). I think there are different reasons in different regions. Some just may not be ready for a female leader, no matter what. Some didn't like the milquetoast nature of the candidate, some didn't like the overly partisan liberalness of the candidate. You can't apply the solutions in one state to another. But you can apply the methodology of analysis and reasoning to all cases.

You have just succeeded in your rant to keep and place a right wing majority leader (Touche Turtle) presently on the TV gloating that he is willing to fix the senate when he filibustered over 413 bills since 2008 and is trying to lay the blame on the democrats in the senate for the ills of this country and then have him say the issue was not in the house (Congress) of right wing representatives are you an adult and serious in your rant?
I am a left winger, and I am proud of this fact and to have you lay the issue at Grimes ,Nunn, and Pryors defeat at there feet is hypocritical, they are centrist.
You have a right wing Sec. of State in Georgia conveniently miss place over 40,000 voter registrations and you say move on
We have no purity tests like the right wing republicans and to insinuate that kind rant is disdain for this party and ideals of equality
You have in this country as we speak a continued push to deny the right to vote, 600,000 in Texas, 300,000 in Wisconsin, 250,000 in Ohio are just examples in over 27 states.
The right to privacy on health issues
You have right wing U.S. Supreme Court denying people (human beings) the right to vote and you say move on---- really, when all people those same people of ethic color and back ground have died for this right.
How would you feel if you were denied this right please tell us all how it would feel.
Centrist, and the Third way for less have gotten us into this mess if the first place.
You say we should lick our wounds really and you say we should move on to Hillary, maybe you should read a book about Francis Perkins before you come on this blog and tells us what a lefty is and who to consider,
She was and is a heroine of mine, that is what we need in this party and not some centrists:

When a restaurant fails in your town do you blame the consumers?

It's only tunnel vision that can make that look right.

If people don't like products that are offered then the failure MUST MOSTLY be the fault of the people choosing to sell the products to consumers in the places where the products are sold.

Believing the voters are to blame completely lets off incompetent politicians that don't connect to the electorate

to fit their view.

What people who think it's all about party loyalty and losses should be blamed on voters don't get is the process isn't all about party loyalty and voting for the team.

What politicians who push neo-liberal corporatist don't get that many people recognize that being a pro neo-liberal corporatist dem precludes being able to be FOR social spending.

Politicians who do that repeatedly turn out to be unable to deliver what they promise. Just like Mary Burke, the dem who lost to Walker. One of her last sets of school board votes involved voting FOR raises to salaries of school employees, BUT then votng against the increase in taxation that would make those raises possible.

The assumption that the base will vote for anyone because the base hasn't any other place to go, is deliberately suspending belief in reality. Voters faced with no other place to go on election day can just stay home.
