GOP won the Senate by winning traditionally red states

Yeah the seats we lost stink, but WV, Montana, South Dakota, Arkansas, Alaska, does anyone really think of these as liberal strongholds?

Colorado, NC and Iowa hurt, these are purple places.

Here's the reality: the youth didn't show up. There wasn't an influx of right wing support, the numbers that weren't enough in 2012 were simply enough now because the left didn't come out to vote. The suckers bought into all the "ratfucker" reasons that were detailed in another thread on here.

In 2016, the senate and house seats that the right picked up in 2010 (when the left didn't show up either)... except this time the left is going to show up. This is still a left leaning country, and that isn't going to change, and when we come back out in 2016 the left will retake the senate and hold the presidency. The house? I don't know.

I'm not worried about presidential election years. The question, and this should be the DNC's #1 priority, is HOW to we get the same people who come out to vote for presidents out to vote in midterms.

Give them something to vote for. I doubt a sixty something will bring them out. End the drug war, end all wars, make higher education affordable, forgive student loans, decriminalize all drugs, make high paying jobs available, make housing affordable, make women's reproductive rights and health care a top priority. And the beat goes on.

Stop calling them MIDTERMS!

I don't care if that's the accurate terminology or not. It has an inherent negative connotation, that it's "not as important as a presidential election."

I can't prove that this is the problem, only that it comes across that way, even to me, an educated voter. "Mid-term" strongly implies that it's an election not nearly as important as those that take place for President.

Let's replace it with something far more positive and more likely to get people out to vote: National Election. It's truthful in that many of the races are for US Senate and US House, both of national importance, like President.
