Padorn the Interuption...

I've been here on and off since 2002. Mostly off these past few years as real life intruded and my enjoyment of this site began to wane. But hopefully I can give you a little ray of hope.

My husband began his treatment today for a disease which he has lived with for 10 years and had worsened in the past two. Left unattended to, he might have needed a transplant in the future or have died from the disease.

The cost of such treatment would have bankrupted us completely. However, due to the insurance we qualified for and now have under the ACA, it won't. In fact, insurance will pay for all of it (with help from a charitable foundation).

I read 1Strong Blackman's post and thought, damn, he's right. The ACA isn't perfect and parts of it aren't even damn good, but in this family it worked. So I should tell somebody, so I did with a friend on Facebook who was just crowing about "ObamaCare being overturned finally!!". I suggested that she think of the real-life ramifications for others before she thinks of it being a threat to "freedom and democracy".

Healthcare, equal pay, anti-discrimination laws, unemployment benefits, student loans. The list of things which this year's candidates could have run on from the administration, was in my humble opinion, pretty long. I would have pounded the GOP on being the party of obstruction and not allowing any of these items to be improved upon or even discussed.

It might not have worked, but if we're going to go out, go out swinging.
