Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, the former mayor of San Francisco, also handily won reelection, beating beat GOP challenger Ron Nehring by nearly 12 percentage points.
Attorney General Kamala Harris was also reelected to a four-year term on Tuesday night, getting 56 percent of the vote to defeat Republican Ronald Gold.
Democrats also won in the secretary of state, treasurer, controller and insurance commissioner races.

(149,297 posts)However, more locally, for State Senator, Sandra Fluke lost to Ben Allen, who had been funded by a Republican, Craig Huey.
He basically bought the election for Allen by putting up signs everywhere and sending out tons of mailers. I hope that Allen turns out to be a genuine Democrat. Having a Republican back him makes me uneasy.

(149,297 posts)They have marginalized themselves on the topics that are hot button issues for CA Dems. Immigration, GLBT rights and marriage, the environment and like that.
I'm sure there are other reasons but those are what come to my mind right off the bat.

(15,512 posts)under Riordan. Truth to tell I didn't remember he was a Dem until I saw his name on the mail-in ballot but I think he'll do well.

(20,683 posts)By the time the polls close the narratives are already written in stone. We get 2% of the senate and then wonder why our congress doesn't match our electorate...
My own little corner of California kicked as did the state. I did my part to stem back the tide
